Default Great info...

I read that if the wipers work then what's broken is either the switch or the pump. Is there a test to find out which it is before removing a good pump? I'm concerned that with my luck, I'll switch the pump out & it'll be a faulty switch. Also, where is the switch located? How hard is that to change?

The washer is controlled by the wiper motor assembly. When requested, the windshield wiper motor activates the windshield washer relay (internal to the windshield wiper motor), and provides voltage to the washer pump. The WSM shows the following possible causes:
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Windshield washer hose
  • Windshield washer jet
  • Washer pump
  • Wiper/washer switch
  • Windshield wiper motor
  • SCCM
The switch is part of the multi-function switch on the left side of the steering column. If you have FORScan or a diagnostic scan tool you can monitor the switch function from SCCM PID F_WASH_SW.

The SCCM can broadcast a couple of DTCs related to the washer as follows:
  • B1051:09 = Front Washer Switch: Component Failure
  • B1131:49 = Wiper Motor Module: Internal Electronic Failure

Thank you. I dobt have a scan tool but, if I drive up to the parts store they allow the use of 1.

Mine stopped working recently, but before ordering a new pump, I just gave my old one a few taps with butt end of my screwdriver. Pump started working just fine after that. I think it just froze up from little use.
