Default Windshield cracked...

Under 5k and my windshield is cracked. Came out Saturday morning and there it was. Just about dead center looks like it started from the edge, came up about 5" and took a turn to the drivers side about 8". I don't see any rock chips that could have started this. Not liking $100 deductable to replace it. Anyway this could be a warrenty issue? Again I don't see any reason this should have happened, no chip ding or other reason.
Thoughts?

Get a ball point pen and start tracing the crack from the edge of the windshield. If it stops at any point that is your rock chip. It doesn't have to be star shaped to have caused this. If you don't find any sign of a rock chip take it to the dealership so they can check it. There is a slight possibility it could be a stress crack, unlikely but possible.

Go to the dealership first before calling your insurance. It isn't all that uncommon. The glass just needs a tiny nick along the edge at time of assembly to cause a crack down the road. No impact evidence.... warranty repair.....plus you will get an OEM windshield.

Odds are that you had a small rock hit at the edge of the windshield.

I already had to replace my windshield for the same reason - an extremely small rock hit about 1/4" from the bottom edge of the windshield just to the right of the center of the driver side. It was barely noticeable when it hit, just a tiny "tick" sound, and I looked down to where the sound came from. A crack immediately ran vertical about 6", turned 90 degrees towards the passenger side, and ran about 4". 10 minutes later it made a 180 degree turn and ran 8", then stopped. I drove it for about a month like this and it never ran any further. I finally got around to getting the windshield replaced 2 weeks ago; I ended up with what appears to be an OEM Sound Screen windshield with the same Ford script silk-screened at the top.

unfortunately it's the Sound Screen windshield that appears to be the problem. The sound deadening filler material seems to make the windshield core too soft, therefore creating insufficient support for the outward facing glass. I already bought one in my first month. I think a bug hit it. Next one will be on Ford.

Good luck getting Ford to warranty glass unless you can prove it cracked due to a defect and not an object striking the windshield. Windshields crack quite easily when hit on the edge.

I've never had a windshield crack in 20-21 years of driving but this F150 cracked on me on the first rock that hit the edge where the a pillar is. Another thread or a Google search showed another 2015 F150 with a big *** hole from where a rock or whatever hit it and the windshield imploded inwards sending glass into the cockpit. These windshields are junk.

In nearly 20 years as a service advisor, service manager and parts and service director I can count the number of actual warranty windshield cracks I saw on 1 hand...and I wouldn't need to count on my thumb. They are uncommon. In the old days if the windshield broke removing it then there was no way to prove whether it was a stress crack or not. But these days if it breaks removing it then too bad, they won't cover it.

There are millions of Soundscreen windshields installed on F-150s and other vehicles. There is nothing wrong with them. These trucks are prone to getting hit with debris as they sit up high. My Fusion windshield got hit by a rock. It was Soundscreen and was repaired. Then a year plus later it got hit again. End of story.

These have been installed on vehicles for 5+ years now. Like every other problem that people have, a few posts (even a few dozen) makes it sound like an epidemic. It's not.
