Default Window tinting

I’m 70 and new to this tinting. I’m reading about different tinting such as ceramic. This was in a 2017 2018 post. What does 15% mean? Which blocks more heat transfer. Being 70 I probably won’t like as much tint as younger guys but I am looking to block heat transfer as some of the Texas people are. Hope someone will explain this tinting and so forth. Thank you

15% means the film only allows 15% of the light to pass through. That number is the VLT, or Visual Light Transmittence. Being in TX, I believe your only allowed 25% on the front doors, so your installer would need to install a film in the 30-35% range to be legal. The lower the number, the darker the film is BTW. Yes, a ceramic film will help keep you cooler, to a point. Ceramic films actually absorb more heat than a dyed or HP film, but allow that heat to be wicked away as the vehicle moves down the road. The cool thing about ceramic films is you don’t have to go darker to get good heat rejection.

If you’re looking for heat rejection, you want the nano ceramic tint. I have autobahn i3 on mine, I think 35%. Hüper Optik is really good. Same with llumar. The type of tint has more impact on heat rejection than darkness.

At your age driving at night issues will soon be upon you. I would seriously consider not doing any tint. A windshield sunscreen and air conditioning does a cooling job very well. I speaking from first hand experience.

Tint with ceramic 70%+ and you'll barely notice any tint and still get heat rejection.

Rollin Thunder, guess I’m a statistic. Don’t really want my 2015 Platinum darker but heat rejection with ceramic might work for me.

My F150 is the first truck I've ever gotten tinted and I'm wondering why I waited so long. I love it. Keeps it cooler, less sun glare and I can pick my nose in traffic without funny looks
