Streaming movies to an iPad over cellular is a great way to run up a nice cellular bill. An average HD movie on Netflix or Amazon could be 5-10GB. Look at your plan and limits (even if it says “unlimited”). For set plans you are likely to see $10/gigabyte once you go over. For unlimited plans, most throttle the service to speeds where you couldn’t watch Netflix. Downloading a movie or series to the device is the best option if you have space.

You can also look into a Seagate Wireless Plus hard drive. Its an external hard drive that has built in Wifi which allows your iPad or mobile device to connect to the drive to stream the content. I have one and its worked well as long as you have a power source for it.

My solution ten years ago was to hand my kids a book. Now one is an accountant and the other a nurse. Seems to have worked out okay.
