Holy cow, that’s full!!! When the drama first started for me, my level was to about the lower side of that dark rectangle. I checked the manual like several others and did not see where it said to warm up the engine before checking the oil level. It does state to wait 15 after shutting down and there is a graphic by the dipstick that says/shows the same thing. Hard to believe that there is that much oil draining down beyond the 15 minute drain period.

I think I shared this before, but here is the complaint I sent the service manager after I noticed the problem: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dnt9dsdafu...ssue.docx?dl=0

In that document I quote the relevant owner manual, shop service manual, and SSM that may be useful. I also show how the level changes over 20 minutes.

That is very useful information, thank you. I notice in the bulletin that it says that you can check the oil immediately if the engine has not been started.
That will be very helpful when I return to the dealer

There has been a sufficient amount of time since the 2.7 EcoBoost with auto Stop/Start feature has been out for the oil change community to have figured out the 20-30 minute drain rule. Or not. Or they don't give a hoot and want to get them in and out as fast as possible and to heck with getting it right.

Why is this so difficult to get right????????
I always ask for bottled oil never know what's in them big oil tanks and they cant over fill like they can with oil gun.

The 2.7 (and many more future engines) are not 'fast lane' compatible, because a quick change line can't sit a vehicle for 30 minutes draining.

i would assume it takes a while to drain back due to engine complexity and or design.

@16sport depends on the oil gun my guns spot on and the oil goes through a filter prior to entering hose.

All that said I use bottled oil in my personal rigs because I use really specific oils in them.

it seems some of these newer engines are more sensitive to a little over fill then under fill

I would add 6 and go with it check it after it’s sat for awhile.

I am picky about how my vehicles are worked on. It irks me when I observe a lack of care being performed on my vehicles when having any kind of work being done on them. I will visit the service writer or manager when I don't feel right about how something is done. My number one pet peeve is seeing oily footprints on my floor mats or outside running boards after an oil change. Makes me wonder how much they got it right on the rest of the service was performed.

I never understood the 'add the specified amount of oil and then check the dipstick and add more' routine. If the vehicle hold 6 quarts, I add 6 quarts. No need to check the dipstick, I know it's full.

It's good practice in case some idiot didn't tighten the drain plug, replace the filter, or perhaps you had brain fart and did the same...
