So you should be wired all the way into the tailgate huh? Didn't they just unplug the latch and reflash the IPC? Weird that the TSB only mentions BCM reprogram.

This is correct. You don't need a new IPC. They unplugged the connector and reflashed the BCM...I don't think the IPC needed to be reflashed at all since my guess is that the BCM was actually what was communicating the signal to the IPC via CAN. The PID may still exist in the IPC but probably does not in the BCM.

I have a 2015. For 2016 and up, you don't need a new IPC. They didn't start doing tailgate ajar until 2016, so my 2015 IPC calibration doesn't even know what tailgate ajar means. I know the signal from the BCM is being pushed out over the CAN bus because when i have the 360 cameras on, and the bit turned on in the BCM, the tailgate icon shows up on the rear camera when the wire is left ungrounded. Why the IPMB calibration has it, but the IPC doesn't is beyond me.

2015 had this feature as well. I had it in my 2015 Lariat and it did show up in the IPC.

I have a 2016 platinum, so if I'm understanding this I just have to reconnect that switch that should be behind my tailgate access panel? Very interested in doing turning this back on. My tailgate has opened several times and my bed cover does not allow me to see it. Hard to believe ford hasn't had to fix this for safety reasons.

We had a late spring ice/snow storm about a month ago. I had to get in the bed for something in the morning and closed the tailgate. At first it didn't close right, so I slammed it again. Got in the truck, started it up and didn't see an AJAR Warning, so thought all was well. Drove about 10 miles, went around a curve, heard a thunk and saw my tool box go flying out. By the time I turned around and went back, somebody took it. All I had in it was rags, cleaning stuff and touch up paint, but used the box as a step stool to check oil.

There should at the least be a light that lets you know the tailgate is ajar. Maybe not an audible tone like your seatbelts, but a warning lamp.

I dumped a bunch of stuff out the back and yes i have a cover. Temporarily I put a piece of red electrical tape on the top lip of the tail gate where I can see it from the drivers seat. I do want to enable the tailgate ajar warning.

For those of us who are used to how trucks have been for the past several decades, not having a warning chime is just fine. Talk about being an obnoxious warning chime. That thing would make me want to shoot my truck.
X2
I have absolutely zero urge to have a power tailgate of any type.
Sadly I would love a heated steering wheel next truck....hoping it will be possible in an XLT someday

You had a remote in your pocket that could inadvertently open your tailgate decades ago? Who made that?

Yeah somebody bumped an old thread...some people are just grade A ___. God forbid somebody else have a more highly optioned truck than you, Your Grace

Totally agree I have Platinum and have dropped golf clubs, furniture, and who knows what else. No sensor is stupid, especially if it can dismissed like the crash sensor. I can get a message, my buns warmed or cooled, but can get a message that my tailgate is down. Ford can do better
