I'm in the habit of always setting the parking brake, and like scott said if you push the gas even a little bit, it auto releases

If you live in cold snowy areas you wouldn't want the brake to come on all the time.

If you have slush on your brakes and it sits in freezing temperatures with the brake on there is a good chance the brakes will freeze.

Well for one they cannot make a cold weather door latching system. Do not think this forum would permit the language after a person in the cold climate areas finally gets into the truck just find it will not move because of a frozen up E-brake system. It is also clear a lot of users on here live in warm climates and have not had to crawl under a vehicle in freezing temps to un-thaw frozen mechanical on their vehicles.

So for the complaints being mentioned about freezing, has anyone actually had that be a problem with the electronic brake system? They've only been on some of these trucks since the 2015 model year, so... (and on a ton of cars for a lot longer than that - the Fusions in our work fleet have not had an issue.

(I get the complaint with the old cable style, drum brake in the rotor hat emergency brake system. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt).

I personally have not because I have a flat driveway and don't use my parking/emergency brake.

Lexus gives the driver the option to turn off the Auto Parking Brake. Doing it this way would make everyone happy.

I use it every time I park in the garage. I don't ever use it outside my garage. I don't think I would like it coming on by itself. The auto-release is great though.

Another question related, when did it become an "emergency" brake? Always before it was a Parking brake. Did something else change?
By the way, my 1976 Cadillac, the only way to set park brake was transmission in park and push park brake pedal with foot. To Release park brake (only way) with engine running shift transmission out of park.
In the old days you could use your "emergency brake" to stop you if your brakes went out. Was simple press the pedal or pull lever which ever you had. I even remember the handle or pedal saying "emergency brake" Yes it was only rear tires but it stopped you. I used it and let the car go sideways and holding it there till it stopped.
I have read in several posts awhile back that our electronic e-brake can be activated by holding the switch in the on position in emergencies like loosing your brakes. And before anyone says dual chamber master cylinders don't let you loose your brakes do some research. Trust me it's not fun. Technically you do have some brakes but Fred Flintstone's feet would probably work better.

my Audi S5 did this.. actually if you were on a hill you could put the parking/emergency brake on and as soon as the car rolled back it would disengage .. great for manual drivers
