The truck is a week old, and I'm pretty new here, so it seems too soon to be posting a topic like this. But alas. I could use some encouragement.
I wanted a spray-in bed liner, but there wasn't a Line-X dealer in my town. The local Bullet Liner dealer had good reviews, and their work looked great, so I decided to take a chance.
I noticed some issues with the edges of the liner almost immediately after getting the truck home. I contacted the owner of the Bullet Liner franchise, who said that what I was describing didn't sound normal, and to bring the truck in so he could look at it.
The edges of the liner appeared to be peeling, and the Bullet Liner guys confirmed it by pulling off large chunks without too much effort. They seemed surprised and frustrated, and were very apologetic. The owner speculated that the mixture from the gun wasn't right when it was sprayed.
I'm going to have to leave the truck with them for at least a day this week while they figure out how to fix this.
I'm not going to name the installer, because they seem intent on fixing the problem, and the purpose of this post isn't to shame anybody. I could just use some moral support. This is the first new truck I've ever owned, and having such a seemingly simple mod go bad isn't a good feeling.
At this point, I'm hoping the problem extends to the entire bed, so that the entire liner can be removed without too much trouble, and re-sprayed uniformly. It's hard to image it will look very good spot-sprayed.
Hard to tell with color of the truck. But did the paint under the spray on liner get prepped? In other words, they are supposed to sand and rough up the paint to allow better adhesion when spraying that stuff on. At least when they do lineX that is the case.
I'm not a professional, but it doesn't look like they prepped it nearly enough. I can see some fine scuffs in the clearcoat, but watching some other videos on bedliner prep, they usually stuff it up pretty darn good.
Definitely a prep problem. I just had Rhino Liner Pro sprayed in mine and I stopped in to look at it when they had it sanded down before they applied the liner. There was not a single spot in that bed where shiny paint was left, and in a few places it was right thru to the bare aluminum. I know he said they were going to "treat" the bare spots before spraying the liner, I'm guessing a primer or some sort. I know I can't grab mine and peel it off.
