Default Wheel Torque Question

I know Fords spec on wheel lug torque is 150 lbs. The wheel manufacture of my wheels has the following specs 14 mm stud=85-90. They also say for 9/16" stud size(14.2785 mm)=135-145 lbs. Which recommendation should I go with?

I'd go with your wheel manufacturers recommendations. Metal composition and stress points could be different than Fords, don't know who actually makes Fords Wheels.

85-90 sounds really low. Even my wife's Toyota matrix is spec'd at 105 ft-lbs.
If the wheel manufacturer recommends such a low torque, is the wheel rated for the possible truck load?

Different nuts, different torque specs! I'd suggest you give a call to the manufacturer and ask the question - better be safe than sorry when dealing with the only thing that keeps you on the road...

I was meaning to ask this and sorry for the jack but are you supposed to be able to easily remove the lugs? My ram required something like 130 ftlbs and it was really hard to remove. I had to remove my oem 20's a couple weeks ago and it came off no problem with just a simple socket wrench no breaker bar.

Spoke with Trade Union the company who makes V-Rock wheels. Their people stated that the lugs should be torqued to Fords spec. He thought 150 ft lbs sounded high but said it would not damage the wheel. So 150ft lbs it is.

150 ft./lbs. sounds high to me too. That's a lot of force on 6 wheel lugs. I would think the average guy would have plenty of trouble applying it and even more trouble loosening them.

MMD I Agree. But look it up 14mm stud is 150ft lbs. I carry a 1" breaker bar with a 13/16" socket in the under seat storage so should I have an unfortunate chance to change a tire roadside. I use an impact wrench and torque sticks at home when I rotate tires and I use the 120 ft lb stick. Funny you mention being able to apply 150 much less break them. Borrowed my neighbors torque wrench a while back when I put some Bora spacers on and 150 ft lbs was getting close to my limits. Hell gettin old.
