Default Wheel Locks

Thinking of getting these wheel locks for my 20" Sport Wheels:

https://accessories.ford.com/nut-wheel-10816.html

Does anyone have any thoughts or comments on these specifically, or wheel locks in general? And yes, I searched, and found little to no info on here. Thank you.

Had some like that on our Optima. They stripped and had to have them pounded off. Not sure of Fords quality.

Just don't overtighten them or they can be hell to get off. I know from a shop that put custom rims on for me and when it came time for a tire rotation they heard about it and bought me a new set because they got damaged.
Also don't leave the lock nut key in your glove box....first place a theif will look. If they want them bad enough they will get em!

Mine came with them from the dealer but I've thought about taking them off. The wheels have been on and off a couple of times now without issue though, even at 150 ft lb's (F150 wheel torque specs).

Little bit of never seize goes along way. Most shops just zap them on tight as can be with no torque spec wrench.

Thanks guys.

I thought it wasn't best practice to use "never seize" or similar products on lugs because in theory they could come off the wheel easier?

Is there a good method to getting a wrench in there without damaging the wheel? I know some rubber sockets exist, but not sure if they are worth it.

What is the lug socket size? I'm sure I can figure it out, but just wondering if people knew off the top of their heads.

I have always used never seize on the wheel studs and have never had one come loose. I also have never had one stuck on either. I worked in a tire shop and it was standard that all studs got never seize.

i hate wheel lock nuts. All it takes is one visit to the dealer (or somewhere) where they over torque it, or lose the lock, or they replace your 'key' with the wrong one (ya that happened to me with my VW), or replace one of your lock nuts with the wrong one, or you happen to forget anti-seize and end up breaking/cracking the lock nut trying to get it off, or finally you can't find your key because that one time you were in a rush and put it in the wrong spot.

No thanks. I'll never have lock nuts again. Thankfully, I've never heard of anyone stealing rims off of cars around here (nor have I ever heard/seen this in my entire life) so I really don't know how much they actually accomplish!

Ha, sounds like you ran across a few issues.

I put them on my car a few years ago before I stayed in downtown Montreal.

The thought of replacing a sport 20" wheel(s) and tire(s) isn't worth the risk to me. Hopefully they match the other lugs somewhat.
