I have a 2016 Lariat with sync 3 and I keep reading about everyone using Sync version 3.4 or something. I have mine up to the latest version according to ford website and I'm stuck on SYNC3 v3.0.20204
Is this correct or am I missing something? Any way to get it to 3.4?

The short answer is no. 3.4 has hardware changes that can't be updated with just software.
this is great. Any performance hit over 3.0 that you have noticed? Would hate for it to become much slower. Was it worth the upgrade from 3.0 in your opinion?
Scares me a little bit to do this as I'm afraid I'll brick my unit

Thanks man
Have you checked the "official" thread on this? I'm sure someone summarizes the benefits somewhere in there. I have a 2016 and didnt bother with upgrade to 3.4. Android Auto does everything i need.
Whether it is worth it or not depends on how you use it.
For those in areas with decent coverage either Android Auto or Apple Carplay are far superior in just about every way and also make it simple to flip back to the Sync interface if needed. Normally the only time I see the Sync interface these days is when I start the truck, before Carplay takes over.
If you don't or can't use either of those for whatever reason (you need consistent offline maps, or like the built in audio, etc.) then it might be worth looking at updating it.
