I was doing a 2" leveling kit on my brand new 2016 XLT 4x4 when I noticed this bar looking thing located behind the front wheel well area. It comes off the frame but doesn't have anything attached to it. Any idea what it's for?

 

It's a crash bar. It's intent is to push the tire out in an accident so that the tire and wheel don't enter the passenger compartment and further complicate a bad situation.

 

It's to protect your feet from getting crushed!!

 

Oh ok, Never seen that before. I hope to never use it!

 

Be thankful you have them,,, Ford didn't feel my feet were worth protecting!

 

Look at the video comparing the 2015 SuperCab to the 2016 SuperCab.

The '15 doesn't have the bars, the '16 does.

Glad I waited for the '16

 

Mine's a 2015 and I have that bar. I know it's there because it was in my way when I was trying to swap out my fog lights!

 

Is it a SuperCab?

 

This is because you have a SuperCrew cab. Regular and Scab trucks didn't come with the crash bars in 2015.
