It's puzzling why the execution times are varying so wildly, isn't it? Anywhere between "45 mins" to "2.5 hours" is a YUGE variance.

As I recall, it was quicker to downgrade, reformat and reload SYNC and the MAPS than it is to just update the maps and not touch SYNC. The downside to a reformat is that it is a fresh install and you have to redo things like your settings, bluetooth, etc. Whereas, the map only upgrade does not impact SYNC.

Might be a dumb question, but are the OTA updates coming via WiFi only?

OTA = "over the air" = WiFi. You can download updates to your computer and place them on a flash drive for installation.

Map updates would take a very long time (weeks) to download over WiFi because you have to be within range of WiFi, it's often not a very fast connection because your truck usually isn't very close to the WiFi router, and it's only active for short periods of time.
