I believe rad and fans are upgraded on eco burst models.

So, what Ford lists on the window sticker as simply "CLASS IV TRAILER HITCH" is actually the 53B towing package with not only the receiver but also the smart trailer tow connector, and upgraded fans/radiator (on EB's). Interesting. Did not know that. So perhaps having the $150 receiver also triggers the HD frame instead of the LD?

 

I am looking at used F-150s (mostly 2015 to 2017s). What is the easiest way to find out if it has the Heavy Duty Payload Package? or easiest question for the sales person to answer to determine this?

1.) Look at the door sticker for 4800 lb Rear Axle Gross Weight rating and Gross Combined Weight Rating of 7850 lb?

2.) Look at tire door sticker for Payload rating of 2640 lb ?

3.) Look at the rear axle axle and look for a sticker that says 9.75HD?

I am only looking for Supercrew 157 inch wheelbase trucks.

 

The HDPP should also have 4 leaf springs and their own designated silver painted rims unless they were swapped out.

 

Altought you are right about the 4 leaf springs, someone could have added one. I think the sticker in the door is the only 100 % sure that it could not have been modified.

 

1. GCWR is NOT listed on the truck. GVWR over 7000#. Rear axle rated above 4000#.
2. Load Capacity over about 2300#.
3. Axle code L6 for the 3.73 LS.
Must have 3.5EB or 5.0 engine.
Comes with 36 gallon gas tank. This can be inferred on the dash display fuel screen.
Items 1 & 2 are the most obvious, quickly seen.

 

I think all F150 HDPP have a GVWR of 7850. That has been true for many years. Read the door sticker to see the number
Of course the payload is bigger accordingly and that also is important because the optional equipment always decreases the payload

 

I believe you are right for 13th and 14th gen trucks.
