Default What am I doing wrong sync

I have been trying to update my sync since last night.

When I log onto the Ford website in Canada it tells me I have an update. I download the update and had numerous issues getting it to copy over to a USB drive but thanks to being a stubborn bastard I managed to finally succeed. When I plug the USB drive into my truck absolutely nothing happens. I have even tried a second USB drive and get the exact same results.

tried to call the 1-800 number but apparently that's for us customers only and the Canadian office is closed until Monday.

Welcome any suggestions any of you might have to help me upgrade. According to my truck I am still on version 3.0 it is a 2018 Lariat if that matters.

Thanks

Assuming you’ve formatted the USB for ExFat instead of Fat32 mine didn’t start quickly. I ended up leaving the thumb drive in for awhile and it didn’t start the process until I started the truck another time. I couldn’t seem to prompt the process to start right away.

thanks I guess I can try that although with my luck it probably start working right when I get to work or somewhere else where I have to leave the truck immediately which probably wouldn't be the best thing

We all have Sync 3.0 brother. You need to find out which VERSION of Sync 3 you have. The latest one is 19205. Get it from 'about Sync' from the settings menu. And as mentioned, did you format the USB drive to 'ExFAT'? Most USB sticks are formatted to 'FAT32', which wouldn't work. You also have to insert a map code file into the 'SyncMyRide' folder, or it wouldn't work. I also opened up the folder and copied the files, and didn't work. Instructions are confusing. Once I copied the entire folder to the USB, and inserted the map file into the folder, it worked right away. I started with the Sync update, then did the map update. No issues, and I did it without firing up the engine (with a 5A Optimate6 charger hooked up). Good luck.

Most of the time the file structure is wrong post a screen shot of your usb folder so others can see. There won't be a map file since your not updating the maps.

At times it does take a while before you get a message that the system is updating. The last time I updated it was probably 10 min before it finally said it was updating. All the while, as soon as I plugged it in, the USB drive light was flashing so I could see it was downloading. I think you just need to be patient.

Oh, and if you are outside, I think you'll just want to let the engine run with the heater on full. As you know, its a little chilly here today.

Sorry I should have clarified I have sync 3 running version 3.0. the drive was formatted to exfat as per the instructions on Fords website. when I went to my specific vehicle and click Start update it provided the files that I was to download once downloaded I drag them to my USB stick and then pop them in the truck as per the instructions on the website.

This is where things go wrong as nothing happens. interestingly enough we have a 2011 Ford Edge on sync 2.0 which also required updates follow the exact same instructions except FAT32 for the edge, off the drive into the USB port and right away the vehicle detected the drive and began the update process which makes me believe there might be an issue with my vehicle.

I don't know anything about a map code is that's not mentioned anywhere in the download instructions??

Okay the confusion continues it said updating system software for a few minutes and then said I could remove the drive and the files will be updated the next time I started my vehicle turn my vehicle off restarted it and I don't see signs of anything going on is this the same thing where it has to run for a while before it decides to install?

Again, be patient. It sometimes takes a couple of start/stop cycles before it gives the system updated message. Its a little quirky, as you have discovered. Bill Gates was involved
