Time for the first body work on my 2018. I was trucking down the interstate on Friday when I spotted several pieces of lumber in the road. Went right, managed to avoid striking them, but the guy in front of me clipped a 16' chunk of 2x4 with his rear wheel, putting it airborne. I managed to avoid taking it through the windshield, but my hood, left quarter panel, left A pillar trim, and mirror paid the price. Current estimate is about $4700 - basically replacing everything. The A-pillar trim sucks - it's one piece all the way to the back of the truck, and they have to remove the rear glass to rivet it in. Fortunately, "thanks" to COVID-19, the body shop isn't busy, so I may get it back this week.
By the way, the mirror alone (power-everything, signal, trailer tow) is north of $1100 by itself!
For anyone who just drops debris in the road and keeps on going, this bird's for you.
Wow in a way your lucky. Taking that off the chin wouldn’t be good. Sucks about the truck tho. I’ve had a similar experience but it was a ladder that somehow managed to fall off a truck and land upright. Missed it by inches, thought for sure I was going to eat it... boggles my mind how something could fall off your truck and you not notice and keep going. Like wtf.
Be very thankful that it did not go through the windshield. It amazes me how many people do not properly restrain loads and how often they get away with loosing loads. Many years ago I was driving home on a local freeway after dark. I couldn't help but notice this huge white pressure manifold that had obviously fallen off of an oilfield truck. I stopped, backed up and ran out into the road to pull it off the road. It was in the fast lane. If someone had hit that it would have launched the vehicle in the air. I loaded it in the back of my stationwagon (yes, it was a while ago this happened). It must have weighed 100 lb. Fortunately there was not too much traffic so it wasn't too dangerous to run out onto the road.
A few years ago a young mother was killed while driving her child home from a country school. A semi-tractor had lost a mudflap hangar and another vehicle hit it, throwing it into the air. The hangar went through the windshield and hit the mother in the head. She managed to pull the car over to the side of the road before passing away.

I 100% agree! One of my best friends was killed by something that fell off a truck because it wasn't properly secured.
The police were able to track down the truck later, because they traced what fell. His family sued and won...but that doesn't bring people back to life after they've been killed.
WOW!! That must have gotten your blood pumping. You’re so lucky that didn’t come though any windows. I probably would have crapped myself. Glad everything is ok, other than some minor damage to the truck.
