Weird electrical glitch
Yesterday I turned off my truck, a 2016 F150 XLT 302a, and opened the door to get out. As I exited I noticed that the radio was still on. It should have shut down when I opened the door. WTF? It was nighttime, so I was also able to see that my dash was still lit up. WTF? I decided to turn the truck back on and then back off, to see if the truck would fix itself. It did not. I needed to be in a meeting, so I just left it that way - radio on with the truck locked. I came back out an hour or so later and the radio was still on, but the dash was dark. I fired the truck up and found even more issues. The HVAC was off and wouldn't respond, ie none of the buttons worked. My front windows wouldn't open, but the rears would. None of my steering controls would work, including the blinkers. WTF? None of the radio controls worked. Nothing on the dash worked, including my speedometer. I limped the truck home. At this point I decided to unhook the battery. I unhooked the battery for 10 seconds, and the problems were fixed.
Anybody know why this happened? Did one of the computer modules get confused? Has anybody else run into these issues? I should point out that I have made modifications using Forscan including: fixing speedo for bigger tires, adding global windows, and removing the door chimes. I also tuned the truck with a SCT tuner and 5star tunes.

Remember, these are no longer vehicles... they're big computers (actually a collection of computers) that you can drive. Sometimes, they need a reboot. I wouldn't start worrying unless it happens more than once.
Yes, that's an issue affecting pre-Nov 1, 2016's. My truck went 18 months happily before it happened. I lost radio controls, all media buttons (dash and steering wheel), backup camera and my radio which was still playing kept on playing after opening the door. After 6 hours of sitting in the garage everything was back to working normal but I still headed to Ford the next day. They reprogrammed the APIM. There are two options available to them and they will choose one based on what you tell them. They have to crank-start their IDS so it will take them an hour to do the programming. It's been four months now and no further occurrences yet. Oh, and they updated my basic Sync from 5.10 to 5.11 (time to par-tay) !!

My 2016 Lariat has twice had glitch where the Nav / radio etc.stopped working and the centre screen would not light up. I found that if you shut the vehicle down for a while it tends to re-boot itself. Ford said that it may need a software update so what they told you seems consistent with what they told me. it will be a bit more disconcerting when off warranty unless it gets solved.
I completely agree. Sometimes, I get in the truck, and it shows on my screen that I am calling myself. I can't end the call normally, I have to shut off my phone for it to disconnect. Happened several times. The other day, I'm driving in a parking lot, and the trailer disconnected message starts flashing on and off, and the chime was sounding. WTF? I will just chalk these things up to the computer stressing out.
Probably just some computer gremlins but I'd be sure and check for any water getting into places it shouldn't. My buddies 16 Lariat was doing all sorts of strange things. Was finally traced to water getting into the electronics under the dash from a very slight leak from the windshield. He never once saw water in the truck but water was getting in from a poor seal of the windshield. After getting the windshield replaced he's never had anymore issues..........
I have weird issues, too. Cruise control kicks off on its own (or fails to engage at all), my radio volume up button will change the preset list once in a while. My left ambient door color will go red on its own once in a while. Strange happenings at 50K miles. This truck is garaged and well kept. Considering a trip to the dealership. Does anyone think a disconnect of the battery would reset/fix these issues to?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll take it to the dealer and see if they can update the APIM.
DM6, I don't think resetting the battery is a long term fix. It just gets the modules to reset if they are stuck in some undesirable loop.
