Waterproof key??
2019 Lariat 502A 3.5eb with proximity key(electronic, doesn't physically go into a lock or ignition).
I was at the beach last week, and as you may have guessed already from the title, got the key wet.
Not, splashed some water on it, lol, but dummy me somehow left it in my pocket...and was in the ocean for about an hour.
I hung my wet shorts on the deck to dry in the sun.
About 30 minutes later, I found my key in my still damp shorts, ****!!!
I hoped that unlocking the door by the keypad, and putting the key under the cup holder in it's programming spot would work(as if you put it there if the battery in it dies, you can still operate the truck as normal). Fingers crossed, I'm only 5 hours+ from home, lol.
But, when I walked up to the truck, all was well.
The key, truck, and every function works as it should!
One week later and zero issues.
I've killed 2 cellphones by forgetting they were in my pocket in fresh water, and tried several drying methods to no avail. I was sure an hour submerged in salt water had ruined a very expensive key, but fortunately not! Thank you God!
I wouldn't recomend it, nor try it again, and I know this key cannot possibly be advertised as water proof or water resistant, but very grateful and impressed that it survived!

I swam in the ocean with a Honda remote fob once. Took off the cover and it was bubbling and sizzling inside. So yeah it was done.
Actually a new key isn't that expensive. You can get a new one on ebay for $80. You can program it yourself as long as you have two existing working keys. Otherwise dealer has to program it. If it was me I'd go ahead and get a new key just in case yours decides to crap out while you have a chance to program it yourself.
You may need to search around for the key programming instructions, I seem to remember that maybe the owner's manual is wrong?

I may buy a 3rd now for that reason.

I keep forgetting how relatively inexpensively you can get an extra key and hopefully program it yourself. Probably most people should do that. brb...
