I'm always amazed how people feel that they can buy a brand new truck, heavily modify it, then when something goes wrong gets mad when the warranty is voided. This is what happens when people think they can make a better Ford than Ford. There is a reason Ford didn't tune it for more power and higher boost or jack it up and level it. You really think an after market tuner somehow figured out how to tune the computer to make more power in a way Ford couldn't. Or is that Ford knows how much power and pressure the engine's internal components can take and don't exceed those specifications. The same with suspension and transmission components.

That's pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing. What stood out for me was that if you have a tuner and you re-flash to stock before you bring in for warranty work, the re-flash you do resets the "ignition counter" back to zero. The Ford techs have been instructed to see if the ignition count is really low, in order to determine if you've recently re-flashed your PCM back to stock. Then they know you have a tuner.

There’s a reason every honest tuner and reseller warns that the use of their devices can void your warranty. As a programmer there are simply too many ways to hide detection routines in the software for an aftermarket company to truly defeat the system. They may be able to make it less than obvious at a glance, but they can’t make it truly invisible. If you run a tune, Ford is going to find out one way or another. Even if the mechanic can’t figure it out on their own, I guarantee you that tuner is no match for a competent engineer.

At the end of the day, you have a choice to make. Performance or warranty. Choose what fits your needs and your budget.

Man that blows. I wanted to add one to my 2.7 originally but after feeling sport mode there just isn't a need for me.

I know some of you guys like to go to the track though. Nothing wrong with how you want to use your truck.

Could i t possibly be taken to another dealer or are you already flagged in the system by vin number.

Who's getting mad when the warranty is voided? Nobody on this thread, anyway. I'm fine with it. I made my modifications and if Ford wants to challenge it if I need warranty work, so be it. I just thought that it was interesting that they were using ignition counter, that's all. Also keep in mind that lots of people run tunes not necessarily for engine modifications / performance, but rather just for calibrating the speedometer for tire size changes or different gearing than came stock.

As for other aftermarket performance mods, suspension mods, etc etc, Ford is mass-producing for a large population and keeping costs down. Modifications of course improve performance over stock.

I don’t care what Ford builds...I turn it into what I want. Stock sucks...and I don’t care about a warranty.
Handles better than they built it. Sounds better than they built it. About to have WAY more power that they though I needed.

There are owners that have DEEP pockets so no worries should something go badly with a tune. Engine turns into a boat anchor just replace it on their own dime? If someone isn't in that category then IMO it seems very foolish to take a chance on voiding the factory warranty?

I SC my vette but ONLY after the factory warranty expired. I wasn't in the position to replace that engine should it go boom while still making payments on the car. Once I paid it off only then did I proceed to do all the engine mods I desired.

I have ZERO sympathy for anyone that runs a tune then gets their warranty voided. They do it knowing (or should know) how much financial risk they are willing to take to get increased performance. I'm going to guess the vast majority of tunes go unnoticed and do not result in blown engines or voided warranty.

That however is the chance taken when modifying your engine....

I have a co-worker who is about to supercharge his Mustang GT to go along with the other mods he's done. His Stang is out of factory warranty but all his mods are Roush upgrades and done at a Roush certified Ford dealer and comes with a warranty.
