Wait for 2018?
Hello all,
used to be a member here awhile back. Anyway I'm downsizing from superduty and wondering if I should wait for 2018 to come out to purchase. I'm between 5.0 and 3.5 eccoboost. I'm leaning more towards eccoboost because of new 10 speed. Am I misinformed that this will be available for v8?
This will mostly be used for daily driving to job sites with very limited, if any pulling. Please give me any thoughts? -Mike

Personally, I am not all that sure as to what new features the 2018 will be offering over the 2017. I however, am not a huge fan of the refresh on the appearance and prefer the looks of the current model. Plus, since it has been out a few years there is quite a bit of aftermarket upgrades out there. I have been daily driving a 2017 3.5 ecoboost XLT since February and it is pretty comfortable and definitely has the power when you need it. Gas milage will depend on how you drive it, but if you are more highway miles you will probably be pleasantly surprised. The 3.5 ecoboost has the 10 speed, start-stop technology (some love it, others hate it) and back up trailer assist as long as you have the trailer tow or max trailer tow package.
If you are looking at a 2017 XLT I would definitely recommend getting the BLIS LED taillights if possible, as they look better and BLIS is actually a pretty cool feature for the blind spots. Make sure you at least get the trailer tow package that will come with the 3.31 gear ratio. The max trailer tow will come with 3.55 ratio. The tow capacity differences aren't huge, but some really like the 3.55 over the 3.31. I have the 3.31, which some say is better for daily driving. I probably won't tow much more than 6,000 pounds here and there so I think it will do me well enough. The 3.55 will certainly do you better for towing and bigger tires if that is your thing.
If you are looking at a Lariat or higher pay attention to what headlights are on the truck. Most here hate the halogen lights (myself included) and prefer the LED for looks and performance. The conversion from halogen to LED isn't cheap ($2,000+/-) and I don't believe it is perfected yet. However, the package to get it on the Lariat is likely much more expensive so it comes down to what else that package offers and if it is worth it to you.
Do a bit more research on the 2018, but if you are feeling the need to buy I am sure there will be plenty of promotions coming as we move into summer and fall on the 2017 models. If you aren't super picky, the further into fall/winter you wait the better deal you will likely get as the 2018 start rolling onto lots.
