Wait for 2.7 with 502A or not ?
I ordered a Lariat 2.7 with 502A pkg back in late Sept. At the time the dealer's system said the order could be placed and the only late availability was with the 20" wheels. He was notified this past week that the 2.7/502A was a second quarter of 2016 build, which I had seen here all along. I will have the 36 gal fuel tank and 20" wheels and am wondering how the weight of both those items will affect fuel mileage. The earliest a 2.7/502A would be delivered is about June 1 from what we can determine. I have read all the posts on both the 2.7 vs 3.5 and now have to decide....is the 2.7 as configured worth the extra six month wait? I would be buying for invoice, so the savings is $1023 by waiting since that is dealer cost on the 3.5 in the Lariat.. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I don't tow or drive aggressively and know the 2.7 is better suited to my needs, I just would like some thoughts on whether the extra weight of the larger tank of fuel and 20" wheels would pull the mpg's down closer to the 3.5.
Thanks for any advice and input.

Either would be affected the same amount, relatively speaking. I love the 3.5, 3.55 and I drove the 2.7 on a test drive and it was awesome too.
I do recommend the 502a package...the things it offers are really adding to my enjoyment of this truck.

I would probably wait. I think your only alternatives if you want 502a is to get the 5.0 or 3.5 Ecoboost. The 3.5 Eco would cost you more up front than the 2.7 will, and there may be additional incentives in June that aren't around now.
I can't tell for sure if the 5.0 will cost more or less than the 2.7 with 502a, but either way the 5.0 won't get the same fuel mileage so best case scenario you pay a little less with the 5.0 but pay more in the long run, or you pay more for the 5.0 and even more in the long run.
So if money is no object and you don't really care about what engine you have, I guess pull the trigger now. But you may stand to save a considerable amount by waiting for the 2.7/502A to be available, especially if incentives and inventories allow for better negotiations.
I pulled the trigger early on my 2012 because I really wanted my truck despite knowing the 2013s with HID headlights and MyFord Touch were right around the corner. Sure enough they started showing up on lots just a couple months later. I really regretted it, especially not having the HIDs.
So I suggest waiting, as I will be waiting for the 2.7/502a for the same reason.

Be patient and get exactly what you want. If you'll be equally fine with the 3.5 or the 2.7 then that's all good. If you desperately want the 2.7, wait for it.
The MPG difference is minimal and so is the non-towing performance from what I understand. The towing performance with the right setup on the 3.5 is much much stronger.
If you're not going to tow I don't think it matters much. The 2.7 moves that truck very well.
Had a Dodge get squirrelly with me last night on the highway revving his V8 and stuff at me...opened the turbos and he couldn't get ahead of me like he thought. It was funny.

I am in the same boat. Ordered a scab lariat 2.7 / 3.55 502a sport, have not heard a build date from my dealer but read here it will be Q2. I tow some (3500lb), like the 3.5, but think the 2.7 will be a better daily driver for me. Not sure that changing the order to a 3.5 at this time will get me a truck that much sooner anyway. Any guesses if the KS plant getting started up will speed up the 2.7/502a build dates?

I am strongly considering going ahead and opting for the 3.5. I know the better overall engine for me is the 2.7, but can't seem to get a firm build date and no indication whether the 20" wheels will even be available when the build starts. If it is going to be July before delivery, that is only two months before a 17 model year could be ordered with the likely Eco upgrades and 10 speed trans. It is most frustrating that all combinations of the truck are not available at the same time.
