Default Is the Voice Activated Navigation Free?

Is the voice activated navigation system free? I have been getting quotes on ordering a truck and a dealer found one with everything I want PLUS the voice nav. The brochure says it requires a 5 years subscription. The dealer tells me this system is just like the portable ones you buy in that it will not update autatically as new roads are built/modified but you can have it done by ford periodically for about $30.

Appreciate any feedback comments on this. If I take this truck I can actually save a bit compared to ordering but I dont want any ongoing fees. Thanks!

Unless something changed in the 2015, you buy an SD card for updated navigation. They run over 150 bucks from Ford, but are cheaper off of ebay. So updating the maps, is not needed to be done by the dealer, they are scamming you for labor.

Like putting a card in a digital camera.

Voice activated navigation is an option you pick when ordering. Once in the truck there's nothing else to pay for.

The 5 year subscription is for the travel link, which includes traffic and weather through Sirius. I think I read somewhere Ford was covering the cost of those 5 years.

As digitaltrucker stated above the maps portion will not automatically update. For that you will have to buy a new SD card with the up to date maps.

Is there something with Ford that must be renewed/re subscribed to after 3 or 5 years? My Sync???

We did not get 5 years of travel link or Sirius services with our 13's.

Travel Link is from Sirius, not Ford. TL includes weather, sports scores, movie listings, and fuel prices based on your location.

Traffic is a separate subscription, too - it's not included with Travel Link.

Details on both: http://www.siriusxm.com/infotainment

Your '13 came with a 6 month trial, as did my '12. My '15 came with 5 years.

But don't confuse this service with the in-truck navigation screen that you can turn the voice on to have it talk you through turns. If you bought that, you own it. It just works. The only thing you have to decide is to keep the maps updated -- that's done @ the dealer and costs some bucks to do.

Actually, the Traffic product is a SEPARATE subscription from the Travel Link product (once you start paying for them. Travel Link is $1.99 a month, and Traffic is $3.00 a month.

Voice commands are a part of My Ford Touch. There is no subscription. On the 2015 models, you get 5 years of Sirius Travel Link. Travel Link is traffic, weather, sports scores, etc. The truck comes with 6 months free of Sirius radio. As for navigation updates, you have to buy a new navigation SD card. They cost $200 through Ford. A new navigation card comes out once a year. When I've updated my other Ford's I just buy the card off eBay for much cheaper than Ford. They are usually in the $40-50 range. Sync is also a subscription. I'm not sure how long the free trial is on the trucks. With Sync, the best use of that is sending directions to your truck via the Sync app or on Mapquest from a computer.

Through Ford, you have Sync Services. I'm not sure how long the trial is on the 15's. On my other Fords, it was 5 years. Personally, the only useful thing with the Sync subscription is having the option to send directions to your truck via the Sync app or Mapquest from a computer.

Again, this is inaccurate.

Sirius Travel Link does NOT include traffic. That's a separate product: Sirius Traffic.

While it's true they are separate Sirius products, it's my understanding that Ford has covered the subscription costs on BOTH products for 5 years.
