Speaking of, something I haven't come across yet, what's the quickest/easiest way to look up a truck's build date?

Bottom of window sticker or the door jam tag

Unfortunately this is my thought exactly. I’ve made the comment to a couple of my truck-loving coworkers that despite feeling like the 5.0 has always been the most reliable engine, I wouldn’t buy an 18+ 5.0 right now. That being said, I’m sure there are many 18+ trucks out there with satisfied owners. I just don’t think I could risk it.

Didn’t vote because I don’t know if I’d buy an Ecoboost either. I plan to keep my 17 for a good long while so I haven’t spent much time dwelling on this particular what-if.

Maybe Im just lucky, but I have had ZERO problems with my 18 Lariat 5.0.

Just eating popcorn and watching these threads on my favorite forum, but must say the issues with the 5.0 and 10 speed are pretty prevalent. I know ppl come to forums to complain, but overwhemingly this seems to be a major issue with Ford. Scary kind of, they better fix it. I love v8s, but I bought a 2016 302a 2.7L 33k absolutely trouble free miles all around, literally gas and oil changes, not a single issue.

What's the deal ford??

I'm not necessarily a "V8 fan", but I do have a 2016 5.0. If I were to buy a new F-150 right now, it would most likely be a 2.7 EB. I don't think I'd touch another 5.0 until they start getting some definitive answers as to what's causing all the problems.

Just traded my 2016 XLT 5.0 for a 2019 LARIAT 3.5EB. Just loves my 2016 powertrain (engine + 6 speed tranny). Solid, smooth, reliable.

The reason to change was payload, needed HDPP and came with the LARIAT HDPP for that reason (available in Canada). So I previously ordered a 5.0 based on the great experience with my 2016, BUT, after I read what was happening on this forum and the April Ford TSB about oil usage on 2018 5.0, I reached Ford Canada to know if this may occured on 2019. They told me they fixed the issue for 2019. Not sure if I didn’t believe this or just wanted to dodge the bullet, but I modified my order to get a 3.5 EB. It broke my heart first, but confortable now when I see pictures from this forum with new truck torn appart to replace long block.

My LARIAT has 500 km now (delivered last week) and I’m quite please with it. Got to go now...it’s dark outside and I wish to try the auto low beam function :D

If it meets your towing needs, the 2.7EB is probably the best choice right now. They run darn good, get good fuel mileage, and seem to have the least problems.

I find it ironic the the 2.7, the newest ground-up engine with the least time iron out kinks by far, seems to be the most trouble free. When you consider how many more 2.7’s have been selling vs the 3.5 and 5.0 and thus that many more on the road, it’s even more impressive.

I don't think there is a major design problem with the 5.0.

What is wrong with the 3.5 eco?
