Default USB Connected iPhone error-Device not supported

I have an old iPhone 5 that has my iTunes library on it. I wanted to plug it in via USB so I have access to the music. When I plug in the iPhone it says device unsupported. Any suggestions on why or how to get it to work.

Thanks smallseafishie but want to use a direct usb connection as audio is better and you get cover art.

I honestly can't discern the difference in bluetooth a2dp streaming vs the integrated a2d decoding of the head unit, but the again I only listen to my spotify playlists. Album art is a good point though. What IOS are you running on the 5?

Do you have another iOS device plugged in at the same time by chance?

Are you connecting as a media device or a storage device?

Try a different cord (sometimes it is the cord that isn't supported)

If that doesn't work, it may require a reboot of the phone and/or MFT (that is what Ford will tell you).

Makes sense. It is an aftermarket cord. When I get home I will try it with the apple cord.
