Hi all-long time searcher first time poster. I've got a 2016 F-150 Lariat that has Sync 3.0 and the updated module for carplay (HC3Z19A387F). I recently got a new iPhone that uses USB-C and would like to update my car accordingly. I've seen several forums talking about this but wanted to post details for my specific setup and get feedback. The module I am looking at is ML3Z19A387D. Does anyone know if this will be an easy 1 for 1 swap out and the correct part number to buy? I know I won't get fast charging and have heard it may be worth updating to Sync 3.4 using Cyan labs but wanted to make sure I get the module right first. Local dealer couldn't tell me because it wasn't the original OEM part I'm looking for. Thanks!
OP, your 2016 has a "wide" mounting hole (63.6 mm x 35.9 mm faceplate) as do all MY 2015-2017. Any of the Ford hubs with a USB-C are for a "narrow" hole (45.8 mm x 34.6 mm faceplate) and fit MY 2018+. Hub ML3Z-19A387-D is a narrow hub for 2018+.
You need to swap it out in 2016s to get carplay capability, but it is still a USB-A setup.
They already have the updated hub; they are just looking to switch to USB-C. They probably think they will get fast charging, but it does not work like that.
