Default Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max & 2016 Lariat Screw

I have been using my Android phone with Android Auto for sometime now and I recently switched to an Apple iPhone.
the phone connects to the truck with Bluetooth no worries, but I can’t get Apple CarPlay in the truck settings.
i read an article that stated, the dealership has to do a hardware/software update on my 2016.
i have used 4 different cables, two of which are supported by Apple and mentioned in this forum to be working.
I don’t want to pay Apple for a cable, but if you feel I should,,,,I will.

What does your USB port look like? Some models have to update to the latest 2-port module HC3Z-19A387-F.

Then use CyanLabs to update your Sync to version 3.4:

The one thing you will need to deal with is the new hub you need still only has the two USB-A ports, no USB-C so you need the correct cable. I upgraded my hub many years ago and then used Cyanlabs to upgrade my Sync and my navigation maps. I have an iPhone 8 and no problems with Appe CarPlay, although I don't use it very much. I mostly just Bluetooth for music and phone connectivity.

I bought the USB-A to USB-C cable from the manufacturer mentioned in another thread, Anker.

Should work. I use a cheap dollar store USB-A to Lightning cable and have no problems.

The USB-C hub has nothing to do with why CarPlay isnt working. I have two USB-As in my 2018 and CarPlay works.

I recently had a 2016 loaner, and using the cable from my 2018, CarPlay wouldnt work. In fact, there was no mention of it in the settings, only Android Auto.

I believe this is going to be a software update thing for you. Whether you can do that from Ford directly yourself or the dealer has to do it, I am not sure. Sorry

The 2016 needs the updated hub mentioned previously and the software update before CarPlay will work. Updating software alone will not get CarPlay working in a 2016. The original factory hub is not CarPlay compatible.

There is a hub upgrade on amazon that has usb-c & usb-a. I plan on trying that one when I get my 2016 Limited running again.

Do you know the part number by chance?
