Update to sync 3 worked, or did it?
I tried it awhile back, after a couple of tried it seemed to update, but wrote no xml file to the USB that I could upload to Ford, that and I was getting the reminder that I could set up sync to auto update every single time I start the truck. I do have sync set up to join my home wifi when I am parked at home, but have auto update turned off. In fact I don't think it lets me turn it on at all.
When I go into settings and look at current version it says I am at 3.0, but I keep getting the annoying auto update window every time I start, and I did not have to re-pair with my phone or any other family members phones after the update, so I don't think it went properly.
So tonight I re downloaded the update, reformatted the USB stick, unzipped the files to it and tried it again. Stuck it in the trucks USB, started it up, and got a couple of brief messages about it updating, but nothing at all about update being complete. After restarting the vehicle a couple of times I for a system updating message at the top of the screen that was there for about 5 minutes, then it went away, then another notice saying update was complete and I could remove the USB. I shut the truck off, waited at least 5 minutes, and removed the USB, brought it inside and checked for an xml file and there is none. Also I did not have to re-pair my phone at all, I just went back out and checked, but the annoying message about auto updates did not show up at least, and I got a "system updated" message across the top.
On another possibly (sync3) related note, I do notice now that I can get vehicle health reports from the owner.ford.com website, whereas before I could not.
Anyone else run into issues like this?
I'll contact Ford tomorrow and see if they can help with the issue of the missing xml file, and if I can make sure the update is 100 % done.

Try to get your wifi working so it will advise the owners site that you have 3.0. After I updated to 3.0 it took about a week before the owners site was updated. I have never been able to the notification of the update by uploading the file.
I need to check my version (and how to check it
), but with a June 04, 2018 build date, it should be current. I also turn off automatic notification, but with the hit and miss a USB seems to be, I plan to turn notification ON when I know an update was implemented, and after the system does it automatically, I can turn it off again. Ha ha. I deleted the useless to me FordPass app that all it was doing was tracking my every move. I couldn't even close the app, or I'd have to register all over again. And then it wouldn't recognize my VIN. And if I tried to input my VIN again, it'd tell me that VIN was already activated. Aaaaagrrr! So just deleted it. And also did a master reset, since my truck was still tracking my every move, and annoyingly telling me every time I turned the ignition ON. Now no more. I'll never leave my keys inside, and if I could manage that, I have a keypad. And I keep an eye on my tire pressure and fuel level so no remainder needed. After the master reset, I could set Wi-Fi without the need to set up FordPass again. Just can't see my usage, but I'm sure I'll get a notification if it expires before the 3 months. Happy without it. I haven't set up my home Wi-Fi, but it's a good idea. Do we need FordPass for the automatic updates? If yes, I'd have to do it with USB too, because I'm not registering again. He he.

My truck connects to my home wifi when I am in the driveway, so I will watch and see if it updates the owner site.

Update: Still haven't got around to contacting Ford on this, but did enable automatic updates for while it's parked at home.
The other day I noticed that a "system update" message flashed briefly then went away when I was leaving the house. Then something weird happened. I had Apple Carplay disabled as I find it somewhat a pain and it really chews my data up. (Up here in Canada the data plans suck compared to south of the 49th) Anyway, then playing music off my phone every song would just stop 1/2 way through and be stuck there. This happened whether it was USB connected or BT. Then it just seemed to start working again.
On the Ford owner site when I go to see vehicle health report I am again seeing the "no data received" message that I always got after I first bought the truck. After my initial upgrade to Sync3 those reports were working.
So I assume, even with the truck on home wifi, that some things are not being communicated to/from the truck.
