Default Uneven bed??

hey guys just picked up a dealer demo platinum with 3k miles on it last week.

This is afternoon I noticed a noticeable unevenness on the tailgate seen below. There is over an inch difference between the red and yellow edges of the tailgate in the picture below. Is this common? Indicative of anything I should be concerned about?

the dealer sold it to me as new without any body or frame damage.

Make sure your truck is on an absolutely level surface.
Based on that pic, looks like the driveway is not level. Or it could be an optical illusion.
Not saying there's not a problem but make sure its on an absolutely level surface.

Case in point.
I once thought my truck's left side sagged on one end as measured from both rear wheel center points up to the bottom of their fenders. Was off almost an inch.
Even started a thread on it a while back.
Took it to the dealer with my own tape measure and when the service mngr measured, both sides were dead nuts equal.

Problem was i was measuring in my pole barn.
The concrete floor tapers down to the drain toward the front left of the truck where i normally park it.
Because of that, the left front end of the truck dipped down raising the right rear end.

I would look at the mounts first. if they look good. go to a dealer not the one you bought it from and get them to put a paint meter on every panel. you'll know real quick if it has been repaired are not. if it comes back good take it to them and get them to fix it. if it doesn't come back good. take it back to the original dealer and tell them you want to speak to a manager. tell him/her about the tailgate issue and see what they say, ask if it has been wrecked. if they lie, tell them you have already put a paint meter on it and know it has been repainted, and watch their jaws drop. Then tell them you want a buyback and if they refuse tell them your lawyer will be contacting them. this may seem harsh but if they are shady enough to sell you a wrecked vehicle you cant give them and inch.

im following all of that aside from the “check out the mounts”. What did you mean by that? Sorry if it’s a dumb question

It looks like the driver side of the tailgate is about an 1/8" lower than the passenger side and the passenger side of your bumper is about 3/8" lower than the driver side. I'd adjust the bumper and call it good.

Ahh OK, re-read your post which i glanced at too fast. Its only the tailgate.

Being a new vehicle with warranty, take it back to the dealer and have them re-adjust or fix it.
I had a misaligned front door which the dealer took care of in a couple hrs.

^^^^^^^ This is exactly the problem. These bumpers are fully adjustable in all directions.

ah ok I didn’t know that. So this really doesn’t sound like it’s much of a big deal then?

It appears that the body lines are all lined up, top and bottom of tailgate to both fenders. Possibly the bumper to too low on the right (passenger) side.

Looks like the bumper.

Look at the hitch compared to the bumper..
