my local ford dealer has a large service center, they have a guy that only does transmissions. their sales dept suck, but their service dept does a LOT of work in this area.

I did the trans pan swap to metal one with drain bolt on it with my truck on 4 ryno ramps. Not fun and would not do it again. And don't have to with new pad.

But if you are taking it to someone get the metal pan. I don't believe in the "lifetime" oil BS. I change my trans oil every 50k miles. Just like my diff oil I change every 30k.

Did you use the PPE pan or find another one?

do you have the 3.5 ecoboost engine? Sounds like a little easier getting the pan off, than the 5.0 liter.

was there any residue laying on the bottom of the pan?
Did you replace the filter at the same time?

I am planning on doing this. Want to do it with a cold engine after sitting overnight, & suction as much of the oil out as I can with an evacuation pump. Hope this minimizes the spills, and oil drippage.

If you take it to the dealership for service, they will use a pump to flush the transmission.
Just had mine done twice this week.
Why twice? They put the wrong transmission fluid in the first time, so they had to flush the whole system twice to clear it out.
They also reprogrammed the transmission control module. It was shifting pretty hard.
Shifts much smoother now and runs a little cooler than it used too.
