Trans Aux pump priming - easy method
I'm chasing some gremlins with DTCs on my Coolant and Trans aux pumps that seem to be setting off a charging system issue. Because I couldn't find a problem with the alternator wiring, I replaced the alternator, which corrected nothing. And then since I was already irritated, I replaced the transmission auxiliary pump for the start stop system.
The workshop process for this is to command a prime using IDS, Forscan, whatever. I think I have a reasonably easy way to do this without any of these.
Drive the vehicle until the engine and trans are warm enough that you'd expect to see a stop start event. Stop somewhere you can sit for a bit, like the side of the road, a parking lot, whatever.
The first time, the system will not stop the engine because the pump isn't primed. Monitor the system in the DIC, but while stopped, cycle the disable button on the dash over and over. You will eventually get it to have tried often enough that it will prime and function normally. I did this with my truck and instead of having to stop some insanely high number of times to finally get it primed, I just cycled the button until the engine shut off.
Hopefully this helps someone dealing with the pump priming after part replacement that doesn't have access to the software to do it.
