You just pop the inner door panel off. There are three nuts, then disconnect the harness as you pull out.

It would also depend on what you're swapping from/to. If you have manual fold and you want to put manual fold tow mirrors, then it should be easy. If you have power fold mirrors, then it will depend on other factors such as trim level, wiring harness, etc. and your budget. The power fold/tele tow mirrors are around $600 each. If you need to change the harness and door modules, then break out the gold card. There are a couple of good threads on here where some have done this. I have manual fold/tele tow mirrors and wanted to upgrade to power, but the cost is just too much.

If you own a high end truck figure on spending $2,000 to get all the features you have on the regular mirrors.

I also have ****'s but actually when I'm just moving my 24' enclosed car trailer around locally I don't even bother sticking them on. The stock mirrors do a decent job.

As others have said, the actual swap appears to be fairly easy (trim options seem to be the problem). I think there is a thread with pics and step by step instructions. One thing to note, I also wanted the trailer tow mirrors but the truck I was looking at did not have them and after driving with the standard mirrors Im ok with it.

Just the other day I was driving on a 2 lane and a 2015+ F150 was coming my way hugging the yellow line (not over though). I actually moved over a bit as I saw him heading my way as his Tow mirrors were easily over the line and in the oncoming traffic side. Im not sure if he had those things all the way out but if i hadnt moved over im sure neither of us would have had mirrors after we passed.

There are two main types of wiring harnesses used for the mirrors. If you have the basic mirrors with all manual, or only power adjustable glass, you have the 8-pin wiring harness. If you have more features, you may have the 22-pin harness. You can double check by popping off the trim panel on the inside of the door where the mirror mounts. If the plug is square (ish) it's an 8-pin harness. If it's long and rectangular, it's a 22-pin harness.

Most of the Ford tow mirrors, with the exception of the full manual ones that go for $250-$300 a set on eBay, will require a 22-pin harness even if you only want to adjust your glass and don't care about the other features. The harnesses cost about $90 and require you to strip your doors down to bare metal. You're replacing every electrical connection in them. It's a pretty big job. As for which features you want, expect to retain your stock features. Most additional features (power fold, power extend, etc) will require programming.
