Default Trailer Brake question

Finally got my truck after many years of wanting. Got a Lariat 2.7 w/tow package. Normally I'm just hauling around a utility trailer but would like to get a larger enclosed trailer for hauling motorcycles and whatever. It didn't come with a brake controller. When I asked the dealer he said the 2.7 couldn't handle trailers big enough to have brakes. Really? Was hoping to do a 16 foot enclosed trailer. It has electric brakes.

I agree, dealer is an idiot.. find another one if you can.

Brake controller can easily be added, but it will have to be activated in the software by the dealer.

Agreed. I believe the controller is about $130.00 plus a flash at the dealer. Some have claimed the dealer will do it for free..

Depending on your gears, you can tow between 7500# and 8500# if im not mistaken.

Here is the info so that you can see im not making it up

Plenty of weight to have E breaks on a trailer. Happy towing.

Ha what a idiot. I have a 2.7 xlt 4x4 with a 302a package and a tow package. It also has the trailer brake. So yes it can handle it.

Did order one. Will get installed when it comes in. Parts guy is the one who told me I didn't need it. Said brakes on the truck were good enough for what the truck is capable of pulling. I do wonder why that would not be part of the tow package. I was really surprised to find it didn't have one.

I agree, if the truck has a tow package, it should include trailer brake controller. Common Ford....
