Default Trailer brake controller

I have a 2018 STX scab, 2.7 liter and 6.5 bed. 4x4, locker rear end and of course the 10 speed. Absolutely love the truck. Last ride was a 2003 FX4 with the 5.4. What a difference.
Anyway, I am planning on towing a 28 ft cabin cruiser about 300 miles, twice a year. It's approaching the limits of the truck. I haven't weighed the boat yet but I believe it to be 7200 lbs. And the truck is rated for 7600 lbs. so I'll have to be very careful not to exceed any of the capacities and being an "old dude", I have no problems going slower just to be safe. The entire trip is thru the middle of the desert. Page Az to either Lake Mead or Lake Mojave.
So I've got the WDH already and the truck already has the correct 7 pin plug but it doesn't come with a brake controller. Is this truck factory wired for the Ford brake controller? Or what kind of brake controller would you recommend?
Thanks.

Get the OEM Ford TBC. Make sure you buy from an online Ford dealer as there are counterfeits out there. Price should be in the $150 range and not $40.

Itll need to be programmed with Forscan or by a dealer.

Way worth it over aftermarket. It’ll be integrated into the dash cluster and you have a lot more control over it.

I added one to my 2017. Wiring is all there. Just needs the programming to work.

For what it's worth, my boat is right at 7,000 pounds and my truck easily tows it...no drama at all. Unless I am in hilly terrain, I hardly notice it back there. You will be fine. BTW, I have never, ever seen a boat trailer using a WDH.
Ever. It is not needed for the load you are describing...nor do they work with trailers with surge brakes.

How does your 2.7 tow that Bambi? Have you run it up any elevation?

@Bcsnave

Ive gone up into the mountains in Vermont with it. It does just fine. Probably more than just fine. You don’t even know it’s there on the highway.

The Airstream is only a little over 4000#.

It was my understanding that anything over 5000 lbs requires a WDH per Ford. Did I misunderstand that?
I'm very happy to hear these 2.7s tow that weight so well.

Bajaman asked a very pertinent question about a WDH and surge brakes. I'm not saying it isn't possible but I haven't seen a larger boat trailer that didn't have surge brakes. And if you do have them a WDH would make them non-functional.
