Trade in value
All the rebates out now kill trade in value on these trucks for those who bought before the big sales. For what it is worth, my truck 9 months old with 30,000 miles that stickered at 43k is tradeable at 25k. What you made a deal for your truck when you bought it is irrelevant. I just used sticker as a point of reference. Resale don't care what you paid. Mine is kind of high miles so reflected in the trade price. I intended to go 10 years and 300k miles on this one and the only reason I found a trade in price is because of all the problems I have had with frozen and inoperable locks. Was thinking of a tried and true F-250 on the last year of it's generation before the remodel. They must have every bug fixed in those by now as long as I get a 6.2 gas. Glad I don't have same problems with a 65k F-150 like others have. I do think that after 10 years these trucks will have better residual value as that is about the time rust starts to eat most trucks. Trading early you most definitely will take it in the shorts at least when Ford is trying to fire sale new ones right now. On the positive side the most it can go down is just another 25k more can't it....
If your 43k truck is an XLT it could have been bought for 30k. 25k for a 9 month old, 30,000 mile vehicle whose market value was 30k is perfectly reasonable. The fact that you may have paid more than market is irrelevant.
My truck sticker was just above $48K with all options I ordered it with. With rebates, X Plan & putting all money down from my previous truck when selling it, I owe less than the trade value right now (as confirmed by KBB & NADA). This is ALWAYS a stipulation of mine when buying a new vehicle. When I drive it off the lot, I will owe less than trade in value. This way if anything ever happened (loss of a job) & you had to ditch the payment, you could get rid of it quickly. Just FYI, my neighbor bought a 2015 F250 Lariat 6.2, he's had nothing but trouble. Water leaks from the sunroof, windshield & 3rd brake light. Rear leaf spring pin broke & kicked his rear end sideways (he doesn't tow), radiator hose exploded causing engine to overheat......all in 3K miles. Ford is in the process of buying it back I believe because now the transmission is slipping.
For what it is worth, I paid 39k but that was back in May before any rebates at all were out there. When I got mine was when most dealers only had maybe 4 to 6 units on the lots. I paid 500 under invoice and wrote a check so I owe nothing now. I have a low early vin. I just used sticker because that is the least variable number to compare. If I take my 25k and add back in current rebates offered now, that will get me a better view of what depreciation is. By Ford throwing money and huge rebates toward new ones, yea you can get a great deal, but it kind of screws those of us who bought early. Pay to play. I'm not bitching about 25k, I just put it out there so that people may have a better knowledge of what their trucks may be worth on the market right now. A kind of reality check for those who ponder putting thousands in their truck for mods. Just don't kid yourself when reality hits if you have to sell or trade. These trucks are not that special that they would command any premium price on a market. I burn a lot of miles and that is why I keep them for 300,000 miles so that when they are fully depreciated, I just keep running them. It is also the reason I don't go for the highest end models that have all the toys. Mine is an xlt supercrew 4x4 with 3.5na motor. Not exactly the most sought after combination but it works for me. The door locks and latches just don't work in the cold. That is the only reason for possibly trading it. Driver's door has been fixed 4 times. Other doors 2 times. I will keep it for a decade if Ford can find a fix for it.

I bet if I bought a shelby gt350R, put 30,000 miles on it in 9 months i could probably get decent money for it if I did not pay any ADM. Only problem is buying vehicles in super high demand the right way.
