Default TPMS Sensor Issue

Hello gents

About 6 months ago, my rear drivers TPMS sensor would go off every once in a while "Tire pressure sensor fault"... would stay on and go away... in and out randomly. On Friday I had my tires rotated at Discount tire and I had them replace all 4 TPMS sensors as my truck is 9 years old now and I thought this particular one was nearly dead and others were coming up too. To my surprise I'm still having issues with a sensor but now it's the front drivers. I went back to discount tire yesterday and they synced the sensors again all faults cleared but it came back on again last night. It's odd that my originally troubled sensor on rear driver is now on front driver side. Is it possible that these guys never replaced the sensor or maybe I'm having a computer issue of sort? Maybe bad sensor out of the box? Anyone have anything like this happen to them?

Car is 2016 F150 3.5 eco with ~90k miles

If the issue followed the sensor then it pretty much has to be related to the sensor. Sounds like they may not have been replaced. Look at the valve stems, do they look brand new?

interesting. I just checked and the valve stems do look new. Could it be something with my trucks computer? Or if that was not working right would all sensors have issues? Maybe a bad sensor out of the box and just a coincidence

Maybe just a bad sensor .. You say you bought them at discount tire .. I just bought 4 new sensors at Discount Tire for my sons 2015 Nissan Rogue ,,and they were telling me they were warrantied for 7yr ,70K miles , that if one failed ,,free replacement .. you should check on that

You could test for a bad sensor by just moving the tires/wheels around. See if the problem follows the wheel. You will need to retrain the TPMS when you move the wheel though.

AS others suggested move that so called bad wheel sensor to another position..(you only have to move that one wheel)..........If it iis in deed faulty/bad a fault report should follow to the new position??

I just replaced my valve stems when I put new tires and used the same sensors.....sounds like they didn't put in new sensors. If you were charged for sensors they should replace that one, sounds like you just got new valve stems. Ask for the old one back and look at the date on it, that will tell you if they put new ones in or not.....and if not and you paid for them get your money back or have them replace the other 3 as well.

Working through a similar issue with my 2015 xlt.
RF was not showing a reading.

Rotated the tires and inflated them to 4 unique pressures so I could tell where each sensor was located and if it was reporting the correct reading.

All but the RF reported the correct pressure so the original bad sensor is now working in the RR position. RF is still not displaying a reading.

I am still debating replacing all 4 sensors but don’t want to spend $100+ on sensors to still have only 3 positions working.

I would like to find some sort of troubleshootig proceedure other than don’t use LED lights (which I don't have) or unplug your phone charger ( it's not plugged in).

Do you have the receipt for the work they did? It's possible to "rebuild" the sensors where you install a new valve stem onto the old sensor. Discount Tire, like all tire places, gouges people on sensor cost. So if you really got 4 new sensors they would have charged you about $62 for each sensor, or about $250 for all four. Not sure if install would be free, but you have to de-bead the tire to get inside and swap the sensor, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some mounting/balancing labor. Or maybe the overhead from the big profit margin on the sensors covers installation labor.

So I went back in today. They took the tire off and put a new sensor on it. Re-synced the system and even did a learning thing on it. Drove most of the day and I thought I was clear no issues. Reading tore pressure etc. This evening on the way out to dinner it popped up again. Sensor issue, Same front left tire. I really don’t know wtf is going on. I verified they changed out all the sensors so they’re brand new. No way two bad sensors back to back? Is there a special relearning procedure for these units that I can try at home before taking it back in again? Maybe something in forescan?
