TPMS question
When rotating tires, does the TPMS need to be reset? I've read the manual and it says a reset needs to be done if you have different manufacturer's pressures front and rear, but that's not the case.
So my question really is - Does the telltale signal follow the tire to it's new location or do the dash pressure readings read the tire in the geographic location, regardless of what tire is there?

They reregister the new location after you rotate them. The signal transmits shortly after you start moving and registers the new locations. I run 35 psi front and 33 psi rear, so I tested it the first time I rotated my tires.
On the newer trucks, it resets on its own after a few miles and in most cases almost immediately after starting the truck. It still amazes me that there are a few tire stores that charge to reset the TPMS.
As mentioned already, the newer trucks do it automatically when rotating. It also works when doing a seasonal swap, which I do twice a year. Have 2 sets of wheels with rubber for summer / winter. The sensors have always reset on their own. Sometimes it may take a few miles but it has always worked.
Thanks again to both of you. When you think about it, any proactive owner checks their tire pressure regularly, but if you run over something on a long trip, the TPMS could save a repairable tire before the sidewall gets trashed.

Ruby, I rotated in my own garage too. Every other time up until now it was at the dealership (freebie), so I never knew if it was something that had to be reprogrammed. Thanks for the input.
