TPMS Module
Then why do you not have anything to contribute other than complain? Your “advice” did not work. Contrarians apparently have no reading comprehension skills, have not comprehended their own copy/paste content. No where does Ford state the vehicle will self-detect new sensors. No where does Ford state the vehicle will correct the sensor locations after rotation. Quite the opposite, Ford states the reset is required for vehicles which need to know where the wheels are mounted. How could this be a more obvious statement that the vehicle can not detect wheel location without help?
The O.P. dutifully obeyed your “advice” to the point he was convinced the BMS controller was defective. Until finally realizing he could buy a used tool on eBay, try it, then sell it or keep it whether it worked or not for much less cost and risk than replacing the BCM. And it worked. The procedure that has worked for all manufacturers since the in-tire TPMS mandate took effect in 2007.
As I have said many times, “Good for you if you are so lucky the vehicle autodetects new sensors.” I think any competent tire shop should use the proper tool from the start so the sensors work the first foot out the door and the kind of thing that happened here is avoided. Only takes a few minutes and is necessary to know if the sensors are working at all.

did he install the new sensors and tried to see if the truck would recognize them or did he just use the tool? He doesn’t specify in his steps…since you focus on all the things that aren’t said as opposed to the things that are clearly said…I’ll just leave that as an unknown for now.
not sure why you keep saying “lucky.” Do you think I got 4 smarter trucks then everyone else’s or maybe I used new/working sensors and never had an issue. Nothing to do with “luck.”
also, not going to discuss all the millions of things not in the manual, only discussing things that are clearly spelled out in the manual. The fact that they went out of their way to state the tpms reset needs to be done on specifically configured vehicle instead of just “all vehicles” tells me quite a bit. Not going to follow the procedure for resetting a collision assist if my vehicle doesn’t have collision assist.
but hey, you are RIGHT, my 10 sets of wheels/tires, 4 trucks, all the other forum members, and all the guys on facebook that constantly post about this stuff are WRONG…we just got lucky…must be a Tuesday build bonus or something from the factory.
I bought the vehicle a month ago...sensor light was on... I took it to Discount Tire..all 4 sensors bad... I bought 4 new oem sensors from Ford Dealership out of Boston... Discount Tire installed...still not reading the new sensors... I took it to Ford...only one guy (specialty in electronic) was super busy...couldn't check the BTM
judging by your post, for my own reference.
-you bought a truck and it had a TPMS fault
-discount tire said all sensors were bad
-you bought your own sensors and took back to discount tire, still bad?
-took it to ford and they pointed at the TPMS module for the truck
-then you bought another set of sensors or then you bought the tool, uploaded the data manually, then it worked? Or did the reading tool/forscan manual entry work on the original sensors you bought?
Wasn’t sure if you bought a second set after the first set you bought didn’t work.
weird how ford even said the truck should be reading and it wasn’t so you manually configured the computer…wondering if you still have a faulty module…and just bypassed it by manually entering the data.
if I was bored, I’d do what I did 3 days ago. Lower one tire down 5 psi, drive the truck until the truck reads the lower pressure, swap the tire with another one at another location and drive it a few miles and see if the module adjusts…my truck recognized the new location after a few miles
I'm having an issue with my key fobs not working and with the TPMS sensors not working as well. I have various LED replacement bulbs (headlights, high center brake lights, cargo light, and license plate lights). And all have them have been installed long before I had started having issues with the key fobs and TPMS. Would any possible LED interference "kill" the RTM over time? Or would it be an immediate reaction. Or only not work when the lights are on? I'm trying to fully grasp if there was a delayed reaction from the LED's. Or if my RTM just took a hike south. I have a 2016 XLT if that has any bearing.

Thanks for your response! Just so I understand things correctly- with the LED’s off (and the truck is off) the LED’s can still cause interference with the RTM? I apologize for any redundancy in my questions, I really don’t have a solid understanding of how LED’s emit RFI, or that it’s something they can start to produce at some time later after being installed for a bit. Thanks again for your help!
I'm certain all of the LEDs are turned off. The first time my key fob was non-working was one morning trying to remote start the truck after it sat all night- all lights were off. I ended up unlocking the truck manually with the key to get in, the truck started up with no issues. Later that morning is when I first got the message about the TPMS sensors not working. This was all about October of 22. The key fobs have not works since, I've changed batteries to be sure it wasn't that. Once I learned about the RTM, and the location of it, I've tried using the key fobs within inches from the RTM location, and still no luck. At some point in my research on this, I came across some conversation regarding the BCM, and that it could possibly be that? Every time I start the truck I get the message about the TPMS sensors on my dash. Everything else on the truck works fine- good battery, etc. I have an appointment at the dealer on Monday for this, but I'm not feeling really confident after talking with the service manager about it. I have the mechanical ability of being able to replace the RTM myself, but I don't have the full knowledge of that's really the problem. Or how to test it to see if it's bad. Thanks again for any and all insight on this!

There are multiple threads in this forum dealing with aftermarket LEDs causing issues due to the RFI they emit. The common symptoms are TPMS errors and problems with fobs. Hope you find the problem.
Any good tire shop will have a TPMS scan tool that should be able to read your TPMS sensors standing beside the wheels... if they are really working. In my observation Ford doesn't complain about the TPMS sensors until they have failed for a couple weeks.
Murphy is a vicious god, he can break all 4 TPMS sensors and your key fob at the same time just for laughs. Don't rule anything out.

Unpowered LEDs can't emit RFI. When I remote start my truck, I have to first press the lock button, then the start button twice. The thing is, as soon as I press the lock button, the lights come on. Is your truck different?
