Default TPMS Help Needed

Need some help. Purchased a used set of Ford 20" wheels and tires and the seller claimed they have the TPMS installed. I have no reason to believe it doesn't. I took off my original set and moved them far away from the truck. My truck didn't throw the flashing TPMS light and still shows the tire pressure from what appears to be the old wheels and tires. I have a learning tool and tried letting air out of the tire to see if it would learn the new sensors. Nothing works. I did drive on the new/wheels/TPMS for about 4 or so miles. The new set had been sitting for a many months per the seller. My truck is a 2019 F150 and the guy who sold them to me has the same truck except his is a Lariat and mine an XLT. Any ideas? TIA

Steve

So... what happened when you drove 4 miles on the new set of wheels and tires ? TPMS light come on ? No light ? Should be plug and play with the same year wheels and sensors.

No a thing happened. No TPMS fault. Still showing PSI values from the old set.

Keep driving... may take some miles to pair up to new sensors if it has not already done so.

You can tell by looking at the valve stems if they are tpms.

Also, I wouldn't have used the tool yet...just drive it for a day.

See my recent thread. My TPMS sensors were acting up for 1 week, about 400 miles, and magically this morning they are working perfectly. Give them more time to sync/learn the truck.

I've had the tool for a few years.

What do I look for to see if they are TPMS and not simply valve stems?

If you have the training tool you can have this straightened out in 5 minutes. Start the learning sequence. If you get to the first wheel and you use the learning tool, and the horn doesn't honk, the tires don't have the sensors installed.

The valve stem will have a longer brass shaft

Left is non tpms...right is with tpms
