I almost went this route when I got new wheels and tires. Ended up downloading Forscan and disabling TPMS. Saved me a ton of time, money and hassle.

I bought an "oem" set from ebay for $28.00 and they turned out to be duds. My truck seemed to pick them up but then on a 30 mile trip they all went blank. Took truck to tire shop and they could read the sensors but could not program them to my truck. I was able to get a refund but had to ship them to a warehouse in NJ when they were shipped from CA. They looked authentic but I think they were knockoffs.

There is a guy on You Tube that has a pretty good video showing a bunch of counterfeit Motorcraft stuff for sale on ebay and Amazon. Caveat emptor.

On stuff like that, which in this case costs over $100 to remove and replace tires if sensors are crap, it just doesn't make any sense to cheap out IMO. Just buy the OEM sensors at the best possible price from a reputable Ford parts dealer, like Tasca, and call it a day. It's only once every 5 to 7 years, and you know the batteries will be relatively fresh, and good.
