Default Torque Converter

I wan to share my story of no confidence in Ford Motor Company.
I own 5 Fords and have been a loyal Ford owner my entire life. I have 2017 XLT 5.0 with 55,000 miles. The torque converter has failed. I have never towed with this truck and have performed all maintenance. The truck is out of warranty due to time. I don’t have a problem paying for the repair. My Ford dealer can not get a replacement torque converter they are out of stock and there is no estimate if when this part will be available. I have been without my truck for 2 weeks. I can’t believe the converter failed at 55,000 miles and second no parts are available to fix my truck.
I will never, ever purchase a Ford product again, and I’m sure Ford is OK with this.

This is my rant, I hope this works out.

I took my 2015 platinum 5.0 in last November for the torque converter issue. Was told the parts were on backorder. It was still drivable so they said they'd call me when the parts were available. To this day I get a monthly call from service telling me the parts still aren't in. I paid 3800 to have it rebuilt back in July cause I was sick of waiting. Still haven't told the dealer cause I want to actually find out how long it would have taken.

Have you tried replacing the fluid? Sometimes that will take care of the shudder. Hard to believe the converter would fail at 55,000 miles with no towing. Ford won't replace the fluid because they don't want to contradict the manual's ridiculous 150,000 mile replacement interval.

If fluid doesn't help, you might see if an independent shop can swap in a used converter.

No way would I take an out of warranty truck to the dealer for something like this. Find a good independent shop that does drive line work.

You are aware the whole industry is on strike at this time, so all related parts and sources are also interrupted!

Another avenue to take is a visit to an independent shop. There are many quality aftermarket parts for these transmissions. It would most likely save you a few bucks too.

So got truck back without repairs, is this OK to drive with this issue? I have an appmt with an independent shop for flush. Other than this Ihave
Decided to drive it til something breaks, since no parts are available to fix it.

Then if it fails replace the transmission.

How badly is it shuddering, and how long until your appointment? Torque converter shudder isn't going to immediately kill your transmission, but long-term continued shuddering will eventually wear out the torque converter lock up clutch to the point that a fluid change won't help. If you need to keep driving it for a while, you could try putting a tube of Lubegard Instant Shudder Fixx in through the dipstick plug hole.

"Drive it til it breaks" probably isn't a good strategy. If the parts aren't available when it breaks, you are SOL.

Truck went to local shop today doing a transmission flush and adding a transmission additive, see what happens. They are optimistic to help correct this for the short term.

Will keep you posted.

Transmission service, filter change with shudder fix, drove about 60 miles, no change, guess its something bigger. Still can not understand torque converter failure at 55000 miles and never towed with it.

Ford Tough????
