Default Toolbox or bedcover

I currently have a baklip mx4 and have thought about going to a toolbox. Anyone do this? I’m leaning to a uws low profile box. Should I get matte black powder or regular dimond plate? Any ideas will help or pics. I’ll postsome pics of my truck and the toolboxes I’m looking at. Thanks

I’ve had toolboxes and covers. I like the covers because it makes the bed a huge trunk. Most covers can be removed fairly easily so you get all the bed space to use. I haven’t seen any tool boxes that can be removed easily. If you want to carry tools or a lot of small items the toolbox may be for you. Maybe a bed cover and some type of organizer would give you more functionality.

Why not have both? Bakflip makes a tool box that goes with their covers.

There's also the swing case.

Extang makes a cover that works with a crossover toolbox.

I guess I'm old school but I prefer a toolbox. This is a UWS low profile in matte black.

I think if you carry tools or whatever and you use them daily you're better off with a box. If you carry tools or gear but only use it occasionally I would go with the cover.

When I had a 6.5 bed, I had a toolbox (UWS low profile in black). Prefer black because easier to touch up (Rustoleum) and doesn’t reflect light like chrome.

Now that I have a 5.5 bed, toolbox would eat too much space. Now have a bedcover. Soft roll up which is easy to remove. Also have a tote in the bed for the crap that should have been in a toolbox. But that could be moved around as well, unlike a toolbox.

after having both toolboxes and covers ill never go back to just a toolbox, I work construction and tools are on the bad of my truck almost daily the cover makes a beter solution because I have 62+ cubic feet of storage that's out of sight from prying eyes at all times. a toolbox says ''hey im here and I might have something youre interested in if you open me'' where as a cover is just keeps honest people honest. to keep your stuff from sliding all over the place get a 2x6 and add it to the bed to keep stuff steady and accessible, paint it black (or color of your choosing) add some anchor points and viola'. and if you have some more permanent stuff you carry then get a plastic tote with a lid and keep all your stuff there secure and in one place.

I have a toolbox. But one can get both. I plan on keeping my bed open. So I got the tool box instead of a cover. And I got a low profile box. Black.

If interested in both. I believe you need a standard box (not low profile) so you can add the cover (see access covers) and still have access to the tool box as well as have the correct area for the cover to mate against the box to prevent leaking into bed. Or at least minimize it to next to nothing.
