Default Tool Box hold down

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a tool box for truck bed.
I saw the little J hooks that CamLocker uses. Is that enough?
Is there a better way?
haven’t seen UWS yet but can’t imagine they would be any better.

thanks

I’m using the J hooks that came with my UWS box. I’ve taken it off and on several times without any issues.

I had one on my truck when I bought it, they just drilled down thru the top rail and put a bolt and nut on each side. I have a cap on now, can't even tell, but I did find a tapered headed bolt the right size to plug the hole on both sides.

When I bought my box, I thought the same thing, these cheap things can’t work. I looked at other options but none were available locally. So I decided to try them and if they didn’t work I could easily switch them out.

Seven years later, they are still there.

J-hooks on the cheap one I bought years ago for my Super Duty. Never had a problem even after taking it on and off a few times to service the exhaust stacks. Kept some rather heavy things in it too that had a tendency to move around like a full size floor jack.

Yes. They're not holding any weight; the only reason they are there is to keep the toolbox from sliding around or being stolen, so you don't need to crank them down super-tight either. I've had a couple cross-bed toolboxes and used the J clamps for both. I set my boxes on a strip of double-sided outdoor mounting tape on each bed rail, for added protection against sliding and scuffing the bed rail.
