Default Tonneau Refresh

Looking for a new tonneau cover.

I’ve had Bakflip mx4, G2 and 2 tyger soft tri folds.

love the tyger but it covers 30% of the bed unless you remove it and put it somewhere.

I liked the mx4 but don’t like blocking the back window.

I feel like that leaves me with either a roll up or a retractable one so I only lose a few inches of bed space.

also not a fan of the velcro roll up as they never seem to stay sealed.

anything similar to the Bakflip x4s roll up but a little more affordable? Any other models I’m missing?

My buddy has the BAK Revolver X2 on his truck and he loves it. It will be my next tonneau cover when my MX4 dies. I like that it doesn't block the window when rolled up but still has rigidity when flat.

I did a simular thing in February. Went with the BAK Revolver X4s, very happy with it. My previous tri-fold blocked the window when I needed bed access, which was annoying. This thing rolls up very easily. I think it is pretty secure. It is also sealed from the weather pretty good, had some torrential rains in the past month and I always check the bed afterwards--always dry. I like that you don't have to install drain tubes on it like you do for most trifolds. I got a good deal pairing it with the BAK BOX, not really needed but handy.

I have the Truxedo TruXport roll up that is velcro on the bed sides. It's 5 years old and I've never had an issue with the velcro coming loose or not staying sealed. I've seen other trucks on the road that clearly had an issue with the velcro (not sure what brands they were). I had the same tonneau on my 2012 Scab and had a similar experience. Zero issues with the velcro staying sealed. The tonneau has a 5 year warranty.

If I had to do it over again, I'd get the Truxedo Lo Pro. My brother in law has that one and it's nicer than mine. You maintain access to the stake holes on your bed rails, looks less bulky and has a lifetime warranty. That one is also a velcro roll up.

On my third Tyger, love em for the money. 90% of my hauls, the main parts stays attached. But when I remove, I just mark spots with blue painters tape, so goes exactly back in same spot.

yeah, I love the tyger but would rather spend money so I don’t have to remove it anymore

I don’t remember what brand it was, I’m pretty sure it was a truxedo something. I just didn’t like having to adjust the tightness in the summer, then going down the sides to push the Velcro down on both sides, then the times the wind would find a small hole and whip the cover around like a sail, lol

I have the Revolver X4 and I've been happy with it overall, but I have a couple of comments after owning it for 5 years:
  • It is not 100% waterproof and would not be good for an application where you need the bed to be completely dry. My coworker has a tonneau cover that has the velcro edges and isn't low profile like mine and his does not leak any water. I think the low profile design of the Revolver contributes to the leaking.
  • The vinyl on my first Revolver X4 started to split pretty early on (around the first year or so) but BAK replaced it under warranty without any issue. I just had to send pictures. The replacement top has had no issues.
  • I live in the PNW where it will rain and then freeze overnight and this does cause the top to freeze shut. I haven't owned any other tonneau covers so I don't know if this is normal or not for other styles.
Overall I'm happy with the cover. If it ever comes time to buy a new tonneau then I would most likely be choosing between the Revolver X4s or the TruXedo Sentry CT.

I’ve had a truxedo pro-x-15 for 2 and a half years and it still looks brand new! Go-Jo hand cleaner and a soft brush makes it look brand new!

I like my x2 revolver, but at 6 years it already shows the pass of time, while still works as expected. It's no waterproof, you get water in the bed when it rains. Rolled up uses like about 8" on top of the bed.
