No reason to not do it if you want it. My 2015 has been tuned since about 6 months after I bought it new in March 2015. I mainly wanted to get rid of the abysmal OEM "hurry up and shift into the highest gear possible, as soon as possible" transmission tuning. I bought 5 Star tuning because they had a reputation for spot-on transmission tuning, which turned out to be true for me. The discount I received because of a group buy was the icing on the cake.

Agreed. DO EET. I too am running 5* Trans tune on mine and it shifts nice and smooth for me. Been using this tune for a while now.

Lots of tune companies to choose from. I've done a few with very good results. My favorite in Gearhead Tuning, they us an off the shelf variable octane tune 87-93, so any available pump fuel will be adjusted to. Bigger is the transmission tuning is top notch. Remember to specify to the tune/programer what you want in the transmission tune. I wanted additional shift pressures of +10% for quick. firm, solid, shifts, GH hit my request right on the head! I feel a tuned transmission adds a lot to the life of an automatic transmission.

Side note I am wondering if my tuned trans would benifit at all considering the current re-progaming recall. I think the recall would do nothing for my transmission as I would just re-install the tune anyway. KM

Default Thank you

Thank you for the replies. I hadn’t considered a tune for the trans. I was thinking of the hp gain on motor. My only experience with a tune is on my VW R32
non turbo v6 and tune gains are 10-12 hp. Was always jealous of hp gains on turbo motors. For the 3.5 ecoboost I saw 100hp gain from tuner website. Could have been stage 2 numbers. Nevertheless would be much greater than 10-12hp. My concern was putting a tune on a motor with 97k. It would be a given that the motor would need to be in good relative condition. I take the tuner numbers with a grain of salt. The old your results may very type of thing. .

An Ecoboost tune can add 100HP/torque, these engines really respond to tuning! Even the off the shelf AO tune I have added near 100 more, a custom tuned and revised on 93 octane even more, without any other mods. KM

Running a 5Star 89 tune since I bought my 15 with 70 k mi.
Now at 111k mi., Ocasionally load the 93 tune but I believe the 89 tune is a nice compromise of performance and operating costs.
You may want to see if the trans tune is included with an engine tune, pretty sure it is but I could be wrong.

Not a 3.5 but I've run tunes on several of my trucks

- 2004 F250 diesel. Used Gearhead Performance SRL. Really woke the truck up. Ran a 13.86 @ 96 at the track.
- 2014 F150 5.0. Started with 5Star (was fine, no issues), then switched to OZ (complete disappointment), then swapped to MPT. I like the MPT the best.
-2018 F150 5.0 (current). Waited until MPT finally released support for my model. And wait was worth it, good power/response, got rid of the skip shifting BS on the 10 speed, and the MPT AAA works with the FlexFuel system so one tune covers all fuels - no need to swap tunes based on what's going into the tank. It will adjust as you go.

Tuneability was the only reason I was willing to go Ecoboost over 5.0. Worth it for the shift improvements alone, no matter what the engine.

If you take your tuned vehicle in to the dealer for almost any engine or transmission work, you should remove the tune, not necessarily because of warranty, but you may lose the tune.
