Thanks.. I can tell a difference using Costco Gas

D2,
1 quart of ATF run throught an engine at highway speeds will have no effect on the cat. This “repair” came about to get 80’s & 90’s engines that never saw the open road, daily commuter cars, to pass emissions testing. The injectors would be just dirty enough and the carbon build up on the backside of the valve would be just enough to run the NOX through the roof. 1 quart of ATF and a road trip would turn in to an instant pass. It works that well.

Since this is devolving into a gas quality argument I would like to add another point of contention. Iowa and their hot gasoline. I was making regular trips to MN from ETN and one of the routes I would use runs you diagonally across Iowa on state highways. Since there is little federal fuel testing done off the interstate highways your mileage in Iowa will drop drastically. They are adding a ton of ethanol to the gasoline. If you hit the first gas station you see on I-35 as you turn north towards Minneapolis/St. Paul your mileage jumps back up to normal. Someone has to buy all that ethamol Iowa produces.

This turned into a fuel quality 'thread' from post #1. True, it's become agrumentative.
Never discuss oil or gasoline on the internet forums.
It's a state law (in every state).

I will agree and respectfully disagree. You are correct that ATF contains additives capable of cleaning carbon deposits, also correct that it was once a method used by some for the purposes you are referring to.
However. I promise you that today’s converters are MUCH more susceptible to contamination. So much so that many additives have been removed and replaced in today’s oil as slight amounts of normal blow-by was enough to damage. I’ve replaced converters damaged by over use of fuel additive products but I think it’s best that I don’t name the product(s) here.
We may be high jacking this thread a bit now but this thread has definitely run its course now eh. Lol

So who's dumping a bunch of ATF into their motor then going for a blast out on the highway?
Can you video the event? ...with sound???
