Default TCCM confusing for 4A conversion

Im doing a 4A conversion on my 2016 F150 without an electronic locking differential.

I ordered TCCM TM289 which is FL3Z-7E453-K. This is also what the box says (description online said TOD without locking differential)
The part I received in the box is FL3A-7H417-GE (when I look this up, I cant find it on a dealership site but what i did find says TOD with locking differential and says 2TOD/L on it

What is the correct TCCM I need? Would a FL3A7H417FE work? It says 2TOD on it but I cant find if it is for my correct year.

What was in the box.

The part number on the box and device tag is the engineering part number, not the part number it goes by. Confusing for sure. I know, it makes no sense, but that’s how Fird does it. Probably should work. Plug it in and try.

A search of both part numbers gives the information.
TOD = Two Speed Transfer case.
Depend on the build as to what rear is in place.
In 4a, you don't want the Rear locked up unless the TCCM unlocks it above 25 mph.
A lockup in not good going around turns.
In 4a, the front is handled a different way out of the Transfer case that is special to 4a.and not the same as just 4H & 4Lwith manual lock-up or Wet/Snow mode selected for extra traction.
Dealer programming of TCCM may also be needed.
Good luck.

Part # for my 2020 XLT I got from parts man at Ford dealer.
KL3Z-7E453–E

After installed I had to load the as built from the VIN for the transfer case I bought into the module using Forscan. And change the line in BCM to tell it the truck had 4A

My transfer case came from a 2019 Lariat

Unfortunately, I haven't done the swap yet (the TCCM is the last part I need) and I'm leaving the country for vacation next week, so its kind of a return it now or be stuck with it. From everything I've read putting an electric locking diff tccm in a non-locking diff truck will throw a "Check Locking Differential" error. So I'm going to return this to find the correct one. Oddly though TM289 shows up on most Ford sites as the non-electric locking differential TCCM but I found a link on here saying TM288 is what I need (ford sites say it is not TOD but the picture of the part clearly shows TOD on it) and the guy at the dealership today said TM288 was the correct one for non-electric locking diffs too but it was discontinued. I found one used for $40 shipped, so I'll take the chance. The picture say TOD on it and does not have the "/L".

Post #24 from the below link if someone else finds this thread and is looking for the same info.

That's correct they are both TOD (Torque on Demand). The concern is that this TCCM that showed up says its for electric locking diff and I have an open diff (non-electric locking diff). I have Forscan so the axle ratio programming part shouldn't be an issue.

I found a used FL3A7H417FE which is TM288 instead of TM289 which seems to be TOD without electric locking diff for $40. I'm going to take a shot on that.

Thank you, good to know. I looked at the TM340 as well and heard those may work on a 2016 as well (even though it is listed as 2019-2020). I'll try that if the used one I bought doesn't work.

Thank you so much for all that info! That is a big relief to know that the -FE stickered module is the correct one because that is what I have on the way.

Update: The conversion is done and this module worked correctly for me.
