Unhappy Tailgate won't lock

Just came home with my new Lariat Sport 3.5, 2wd and can't lock the tailgate. Owners manual on page 239 says to use the lock-unlock buttons on the remote but it doesn't work. Had the dealer install the alarm before leaving. Could this have messed something up. I have to park outside. Any ideas?

Your not testing it while standing there with the FOB in your pocket are you?

Thanks guys. That's exactly what I was doing. Something so simple. Lots of little things to learn about my new truck.

Make sure the tailgate isn't going to hit anything before you push the open button!!

Thanks! Yep...that was it for me too (learning truck)...I purposely put the fob about 6 feet away because I was thinking this....then was thinking there was something wrong. When I kept the fob in the house, all was locked up nicely. That thing has pretty good range

Also be aware while the owner's manual says you will get a tailgate ajar warning if it is unlocked (a this was repeated by both Ford Customer Support and an engineer they were able to get on the phone), it has been disabled by Ford. Apparently they were having issues with the dash warning staying on and their answer was to disable.

Ford Support states all vehicles have door and trunk ajar warning as standard equipment. They also state all 2015-16 pickups have this (the rep said it considered "trunk" in this case). My dealer has been through the truck and checked the electronics, finding no reference for it. I'm looking at filing a complaint with NHTSA, as the tailgate dropping while moving is a safety issue.

I could have saved myself a couple hours reading the owners manual if I would have come here first !!!!

But I do like an easy fix !!!!

Unless the warning light is required by law, there is no complaint if the light does not work. There are millions of pickups out there with no warning light.

You only leave the tailgate down once when loaded. It's one of those self correcting problems. You learn to double check it.

I need to be more careful.. Having a cap the tailgate will not fall open by itself... Unless wife askes me to unlock truck so she can load something in back on Wednesday.. Thinking she did I only asked if she had locked the truck afterwards and she said she did..

After driving around on Thursday I happen to notice in the rear view mirror that the gate was down..

Seems it was raining on Wednesday and she never opened the back,, so there fore never shut it..

I must of took off fast enough to force the gate pass the caps lip..

Sure would be nice to have that big instrument panel display for the doors being open to also cover the tailgate.
