Default Tailgate won't close in the cold?

So I saw the thread with the TSB about the tailgate not opening with cold...

How about any documented issues with not being able to close the tailgate when it's cold out (sub-zero or lower)? I lubricated the latches and that didn't seem to help so I'm wondering if there is an adjustment I can do?

I would remove the inside panel of the tailgate and look at the mechanicals in there. make sure that's also lubricated and check if anything is getting hung up.

Default Tailgate not closing

I had the same issue with my 2015 XLT yesterday (morning temps at -16 F). I had not opened the tailgate for a few days and it opened just fine, but would not latch when trying to close it. Fortunately, I have a fiberglass topper and the rear glass on the topper holds the tailgate in the closed position until I could get it home. I just backed it in the garage and turned on my heater and in about an hour it was working fine, so I suspect some moisture getting into the latch preventing its return to lock.

I have not yet attempted to remove the tailgate access panel, but would sure be interested in what you find.
Thx,
Dave

In my situation I couldn't get the tailgate closed in the winter because of the plastic bushing that the tailgate rides in cracked. Truck was less than a year old.

I've had my 2018 crew for a month now and had this happen to me two times now. I locked and unlocked the electric locks and it finally shut both times.

I have had that happen as well. I have '17 SCREW and my dealer said there is nothing he can do. When it warms up, it closes fine. I need to slam it, but it locks?

Had my Scab in yesterday all my doors have been effected by the frozen door syndrome, the advisor said they replaced the rear tailgate latch FL3z9943170E. I will update as winter goes on..
Very disappointed my truck spent a full day at the dealer with only the tailgate fixed.
I opened up the cover to inspect the latch system and discovered absolutely no grease on any of the moving parts... duno If I should grease the moving parts with a low temp grease? I use mystic low temp to grease the quad in winter.. Thoughts?

Default Cold weather causes gate stops to harden.

I have the issue with my 2018. I suspect the rubber stops on each upper side of the bed get hard in the cold and don’t allow the gate to close far enough to latch as ‘slamming’ it seems to work. Once closed that tightly it also can’t release with the strength the auto opener provides. This would explain why warming rather than lubing works.
