Default Tailgate theft on keyless models

I had my tailgate stolen on my 2015 Silverado which I believe I inadvertently left unlocked for them. Maybe I would have deterred them if I remembered to lock it or maybe not, I'm not sure how easily the locks are picked.

My question is for the keyless tailgates like on my Platinum. Are these easy or hard targets? I'm very curious.

It'll lock when you lock the cab doors.

The tailgate locks anytime you lock the doors so it should essentially be a non issue.

I know you asked about keyless models, but to clarify for anyone searching and stumbling on this.

the answer it'll lock when you lock the doors is accurate for all tailgates in 2016. Keyless or not.

Like anything else, if they want to steal it, they can. They can force the handle out and access the lock mechanism. That wouldn't be as easy as simply removing one that is not locked since so many older model owners don't lock them.

Put one on the slotted side hinge.
Buy in bulk and give one to all your family and friends who own a pickup to.
Cheap and effective.
Even if the thief is carrying a screwdriver they can't simply get it off.
Sure they could fight with it, and get it off....but chances are they will just move on and take an easier one from another truck.

A plastic cable tie over the slotted hinge side also works...

Did you put one on your truck? Which size fits?
