Tailgate swap
Ive seen a lot of interest around this so hopefully it will help the community.
I have a 2016 302A XLT. Last year I bumped a pillar in a tight spot and damaged my tailgate. I am just getting around to getting a new one and picked up a 2018 tailgate since I like the look of it more (Please refrain from telling me I should have stayed with the same tailgate or why you like the manual more), all the internals are the same except the handle. I decided to go with the push button release and got the actuator and the tailgate harness. Everything lines up and open closes (manually) fine. BUT I have never used forscan - Anyone with experience mind sharing some direction/input on the changes required with Forscan?
Thank you!

I don't know specifics in Forscan, but what I do know is that you'll want to make sure your BCM actually supports it and that you also have the full harness wiring from it to the tailgate. For instance, I have the wiring harness from the BCM to the rear connector populated with the reverse sensor wiring, however I do not have the sensors, nor did my BCM even have the pins on it for reverse sensing. IIRC you have to have intelligent access to have the push button release since it should also have an antenna back there to verify the key, a regular XLT bcm may not have the capabilities
Not sure software wise how to go about finding what the BCM can support, in my case it physically lacked the pins, so you could try to pull the connector and see if it has the pins on the board, though that still only answers that it has the pins
Manually operating the latches. Just to make sure no issues. I put my old one back on for now.
it does look like I am missing a couple of wires on the harness. If I put power to the actuator should the button function normal? I just assumed programming would be required but maybe not?

You need to rewire it to be this:
The connector and pin numbers are shown in the schematic. If you need to know the location of the connectors and the pin locations let me know and I can provide them. It is likely your truck does not have all of the wires required to make your new tailgate work so don't be surprised if you need to run some new ones.
You will need to make some As-built changes with FORScan as well. This conversion is possible but it is more complicated than expected. I do believe there is at least one older thread in this section that describes the upgrade process. I will see if I can find it.
